Talent is an asset....

Playlist
Cloudland Blue Quartet – Souvenir XV
Josquin Duprez – Missa La Sol Fa Re Mi
Return to Forever – No Mystery

The first four of the expected CDs arrived today but I had no time to give them a proper listen – a quick spin of Josquin Duprez impressed while Return to Forever accompanied me in the car as I ventured forth for my third night at the Jazz Festival, this time making sure I was there early having not procured a seat for the Kalerdahl gig on Saturday...

And so there I was in the front row with my ubiquitous bottle of Budweiser Budwar...

The Alyn Cosker Trio comprised three young men of precocious talent, lead by a brilliant drummer (Cosker), with the both equally brilliant Ross Hamilton on six string electric bass and David Dunsmuir on electric guitar...

With all that brilliance on display, the music all in all, while excellent in places, left me a little cold - there was just something a little bland in the content....

There was no denying the virtuosity on display but somehow it just didn’t feel like a band...

On researching the members I found Mr Hamilton leads his own funky pop rock band, Rosco, where he sings and plays guitar, while Mr Dunsmuir is in various Glasgow bands, sometimes playing bass sometimes guitar...

Alyn Cosker has a string of recordings under his belt and is undoubtedly an in demand drummer – and deservedly so on the basis of tonight’s performance..

The felony of the pick up band was compounded by the introduction near the end of a female vocalist for one song – as you know, there is no place for vocals in jazz...

So, all in all, just an ok night despite the speedy fretwork and manic but meticulous drumming...

The Bad Plus tomorrow...

Highlight of the Day : More jazz...
