DIARY

This main page contains Cloudland Blue : A Diary, with daily entries since 5 March 2005 (scroll down for the latest entries).

143 days are "picture only", across 4 periods:-
2022 (85): 18 April - 10 May (23); 6 July - 5 September (62)
2023 (58): 21 September - 15 October (25); 18 October - 19 November (33)

It is always the intention to update those days with the relevant text (for example, on 10 June 2024, first thing, I wrote up five missing days in June 2022) but doing so is, of course, subject to opportunity (and, indeed, memory!)...

Up around 6...

...for coffee and music discovery...

but, first, updating the laptop...

How do you discover new to you music?

A re-post into my timeline about the fat orange felonious fool (thankfully, negative in relation to him). Who put that there? Oh, wait, I follow them. What else have they posted?  Aha, why didn't that top notch jazz LP make it into my timeline? Wow.  I "need" that...

And so, I made it so...

Bob Moses it was by the way...

A discussion about why we stop putting "pinups" on our walls...

This is the only popstar left on our walls...

Anne's hair appointment postponed till Thursday so no need to leave the house pre 9...

Instead, rehearsing for Out of the Bedroom on Thursday...

I will play a song each from "Anotherhappyday" (2003), "Deeperdown" (2005) and "Erstazreal" (2007) - seems like yesterday when I was making these LPs - the creation of the last two is documented on here...

Noted that the opening of both "The Time of Our Lives" from 2003 and "The Happy Song" from 2007 are exactly the same...

And so, "Love and War" will be between them...

Took Anne to Roseburn for 11 to meet with Jane for some legal signing duties and then lunch...

Meanwhile, I drove in the direction of my mum's but took a detour to the big BHF at Niddrie and found six interesting items for a total outlay of £3...

Mum in reasonable fettle - changed her oxygen tube - for the first time since she arrived home...

Probably should've been done before now...

A mother/son chat was recorded for BeReal..

She declined my offer to take her out for a "walk" in the sunshine (I'd be walking - and pushing - she'd be remaining sitting)...

Before exiting, popped for more milk...

How can one old lady get through so much milk...

On the way home, arranged to pick Anne up at the zoo post her uptown adventures...

She dropped me back at the house and, post listening to the first couple of new CDs, she headed off to pick up a new "light" shirt re our upcoming German trip...

On arriving home, a package at the back door...

A couple of nights ago, I'd (turns out, erroneously) thought one of my recent Bluetooth Earbuds was no longer charging properly  and contacted the seller to enquire after a replacement...

And now, I have a spare pair of these excellent wee things...

They cost less than £10 but have a top sound...

BHF receipt also in shot...

And so to today's acquisitions...

Canadian experimentalists (but not too experimental), Crack Cloud...

An autographed CD, unable to be found anywhere on the net, by Portuguese Fado-ist, Carina Mateus...

Neither of those were particularly enjoyed by the EP...

Oh well...

Upstairs to commence the ripping and these were listened to on the system in the computer room...

Better than expected...

So good, I listened twice...

A tasty comp...

Prawn pasta for tea...

An enjoyable evening of episodes 2 & 3 of "The Marvellous Mrs Maisel" followed by music listening, including a new single from Rheostatic Dave Bidini, now 30 years since he visited our shop and gave me "Introducing Happiness"...

The Rheos are about to start recording a new LP...

Yay...

Last thing, this on the Twitter - Tony Isch and his wife, listening to my Prog Rock box set in their car in Indiana...

A good end to the day...

Highlight of the Day : Rehearsing, CD finds and tasty pasta...

A Sunday following on from a Saturday that seemed like a Sunday...

A morning Capital Models mucking about...

A wee bonus for the boys - of what we might sound like next week...

Mostly taken from the wedding in May plus a few other things from elsewhere where songs weren't played at that...

I joked that, if they play along with this it'll get their changeovers between songs right up to speed (as all the songs kinda run into each other)...

My main takeway from listening back was, apart from realising how much of my singing live is (a) too loud and (b) out of tune, there was a fall in energy in the 2nd set going into Folsom Prison Blues so I subsequently brought that 4 song section forward, amending the running order...

Lunch and the first episode of "The Jetty" with Jenna Coleman...

We'll stick with it - there are only four...

At 2 or so, a visit from Lynn and Ross - Ross had a bag of equipment with him...

It was shelf repair time...

...which included drilling of new holes in both the wall and the bracket...

And, soon, it was done...

But Ross noted the CD shelf could also do with some TLC...

And so, it was removed and the bracket tightened up...

...before the team replaced the shelf...

The maestro and his handiwork - complete with less heavy book selection on the lower shelf...

Coffees, biscuits and chat enjoyed...

Books reversed to "from small to tall" to "from tall to small"...

And off they went, home for tea...

For ours, my fave from Anne - while it took an inordinate amount of time to prepare, it was delicious and well worth the wait - perfection...

Second "The Jetty" this evening and some music listening and book perusing...

Highlight of the Day: Shelf fixing...

A Saturday which was like a Sunday...

Up very late indeed...

..and so, no real time to do much before exiting and driving over to Broughton to pick up Paul for the drive out to Roslin...

Our final rehearsal before next Saturday's performance...

We learned "The In Crowd" and added it to the set - we played it four times, along with another 23 of the 49 songs across the three sets...

Discussions over biscuits at half time (after 2hrs 15) - a rebellion against the "upbeat" version of Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" was disappointing...

We ploughed on for another hour...

...and I noted the settings which may stand us in good stead at the soundcheck next week...

Then, to my mum's and noting what was needed to be shopped for...

I let her see her garden...

I offered her the chance to go and sit in it...

"I don't sit in the garden" was the response...

She may well have added "but I do like a snowball"...

Oh well...

Home and Anne went off to Tesco, returning with tasty tea items...

Yowsah!!

The shelf awaits repair tomorrow...

Late on, edited today's session and consigned 9 songs (35 mins) to the "reserve list", taking all three sets down to the requisite 45 minutes...

And so these, from our poster, will no longer have their work featured...

Roxy Music
Neil Young
Pink Floyd
Bob Dylan
Elton John
Lou Reed

Not to worry...

Highlight of the Day: Anne's steak (and rehearsing)...
