We’re off…

Various - Cloudland Blue Eclectic Selection 2024 Vol 8

Up just before seven and continuing to rip the CDs from yesterday...

Anne up shortly afterwards...

Breakfast and final preparation. Managed to finish all the ripping on time...

At 11, leaving the CDs and the books behind...

...a trundle down the hill with the cases for the airport bus...

Security hold up regarding the X Ray machine but turned out to be a malfunction and nothing untoward was found in my cases...

Meal deals from boots for lunch...

Sitting around the airport for a while before takeoff...

Finally, details announced re the gate, at which we had just arrived when it was changed to a different one at the other end of the airport...

Slightly annoying...

Took off around 15 minutes late...

Another uneventful, pleasant flight across Europe, this time, destination Berlin...

...with some very welcome sparkling water to keep things going...

Noted on the descent that the small towns around the city are made up of so many different styles of houses, unlike the UK, where they all look like the same little boxes...

Landed just a couple of minutes late...

...but, as we were right at the front of the plane, we were straight off and, amazingly, straight through passport control and onto an awaiting train and on our way into Berlin within 15 minutes of landing...

Checking the transport grid, we alighted at Ost Kreuz and took the No 42 Circle S-Bahn round to our home for the first few days of our trip, Greisswalderstrasse...

Walked down a couple of blocks (we could have taken a tram)...

...to check in at the Old Town Hotel...

An excellent base for our stay...

Unpacked, and straight out onto the streets of the city, under sun and blue skies...

...and discovered a bar a couple of blocks away called Tomsky...

...where beers were very much enjoyed...

Appetites having been piqued, we enjoyed tasty fare from an eatery a couple of doors away from the hotel - a top German kebab for your correspondent and molten lava hot pasta for the Exec Producer...

Further drinks and, indeed, chocolate secured from nearby Edeka, guzzled and scoffed back at the hotel...

...before we hit the sack...

End of day one...

Highlight of the Day: Back in Berlin...
