Today, the main feature, in more ways than one, was to be "Eno"...

But, accompanying breakfast, post getting this back up to date once again, was Kathleen Edwards' last LP, from 2020, the opening track seeming to refer to Glenfern Avenue in Hamilton, Ontario...

So I took a look on my Maps App and found it...

Nice...

Which led me to search for chum Jorg Sonnenschein's home in Germany - and up it popped, complete with his classic car, sitting outside...

...which, in turn led to a WhatsApp exchange with Jorgo - an update on wife Manu's situation - undergoing intense physiotherapy treatment at a clinic in Bad Wildungen, following an operation on her spine...

Jorg advised the Garden Party we arranged our upcoming German holiday around, has had to be cancelled...

Of course we will still visit and a quiet weekend is anticipated, between two almost week long stays in that Berlin, home of the glorious Euro 2024 win by Spain later tonight (spoilers)...

And so to my next project...

I've been getting a pain in my right elbow recently, which I think is down to the positioning of my mouse in the big scheme of things...

Simply sorted you'd think...

But, of course, no, Mr CBQ had to completely dismantle his set up, do away with his speakers and revert to sitting at his desk with a much scaled down headphones only set up, after 8 years and two months of working while standing, every single day...

Amendment scenes...

Once sorted, finally got round to giving my 50-year-old copy of Fripp & Eno’s “(No Pussyfooting)” a spin - it’s been next to the turntable since the start of the month...

Bought it in July 1974, in Berchtesgaden - I’d just turned 15...

It cost £34.50 in today’s money…

Wonderful album!

And so, this the amended scene...

Lunch and an episode of "Obituary"

Around 2:30, out and to Anne's mum's to pick up more stuff for tomorrow's dump run...

Then, a bus to Haymarket and late/lunch/early dinner at Casa Mia in Dalry...

Tasty Porcini Mushroom soup...

..and two Quatro Stagioni Pizzas...

...followed by a leisurely walk, past the monument, at Haymarket, to the fallen players celebrated at yesterday's match with Leyton Orient...

Up to the Cameo cinema for "Eno" - we could not recall the last time we were here...

In the bar with Americanos, we were sorely tempted by their £90 annual membership offer, involving free tickets and discounts...

We were in Cinema 2, three rows of very comfy seats but, if seated towards the end of a row, as we were, the set up afforded neck cricking view of the screen - that, plus the antics of our fellow viewers, reminded me of why this is the first time in a long time that we have been to the cinema...

The prospect of the £90 membership swiftly faded...

The film itself, by Gary Hustwit, was superb...

Mr Eno is an absolute hero of mine and despite the knowledge that there were probably 100s of snippets we were not seeing, which others would, we really enjoyed the documentary...

In fact, knowing it's different every time, due to sections being decided at random by an algorithm, made us want to come and see it again to see what might change...

Maybe...

Out into the daylight, a walk back down to Haymarket, a bus along to Roseburn and the car home...

Ready for tonight's big match, which was soundtracked by the soundtrack of the Eno film, plus the recent further EPs of music from the film...

The Euro 2024 Final between...

England...

Absolutely punching way above their weight, somehow having made it through, having struggled against Serbia (1-0),  Denmark (1-1), Slovenia (0-0), Slovakia (1-1, equalising with the last kick of the ball, 2-1 in extra time), Switzerland (1-1, an equaliser in 80 mins with their first shot on target, then won on penalties with Switzerland missing their first) and The Netherlands (2-1 with another last minute winner) - so only two of their six matches won over 90 minutes and both of them a struggle...

Versus...

Spain...

The best team in the competition, who had beaten all six teams team they'd played, including Italy, German and France - with those last two games having constituted worthy finals, had the draw not been so skewed...

My, possibly slightly biased (but nowhere near as biased as English commentators, pundits and journalists') take...

First half 80%/20% possession to the Spanish but no goals and, really, despite completely controlling the match, they hadn't come close to scoring...

But, second minute of the second half, at last, the breakthrough, from Williams...

1-0...

England finally managed to hold the ball slightly longer than before and put in a few attacks but no real threats of a goal...

Then, around 75 minutes or so, a long range strike from just on the pitch sub, Palmer...

It took just enough of the slightest of deflections to move the ball just beyond the reach of the Spanish goalkeeper...

1-1...

Oh FFS, surely England's luck wasn't about to come to the fore again?

Indeed, it was looking like extra time, although it was all Spain, as England sat back for some unfathomable reason (possibly because Spain's players were a lot more talented?) until a great move was finished off with a superb centre forward's goal by Spanish sub, Oyarzabal...

We did not celebrate immediately, as there was the hint it might have been offside...

But the VAR check showed the English defender's knee and leg beyond the attacker...

2-1...

4 minutes to go...

Then, an agonising further 4 minutes of stoppage time...

One last try for England, from a corner...

A free header was patted away by the goalie, only on to the head of another Englander, his header was headed off the line but only to yet another Englishman whose free header went, thankfully, well over the bar...

And then, all over...

Spain champions...

England's luck? It had finally run out...

I did my best not to gloat...

All over for another two years, when England's inflated ranking will see them, qualify for the group stages in the World Cup Finals, once again struggle in, but emerge from, a group of no hopers and, quite possibly, via a mixture of mistakes by the opposition, last minute saving goals, extra time and penalties, make it to the final yet again...

The problem though is that, if they do, they will always, surely, have to play a good team - as happened this time - and then be found to be entirely wanting...

The English take on things - they lost to the best team in the tournament - only Spain could have beaten them...

Erm - they struggled against Serbia, Denmark, Slovenia, Slovakia, Switzerland and The Netherlands, yet the belief seems to be that they would have won in the final against Italy, Germany or France just not against Spain?

Hmmm...

Yes I tried not to gloat but it was just too hard...

Anyway, another couple of episodes of "Obituary", were followed by bed, with the decision also being made to revert to the old set up in the computer room - the new set up being "unattractive" to the EP (and, truth be told, to me too)...

But that's one for tomorrow morning...

Off to the land of nod, relieved that, as in 2021, sporting justice, finally, had been done...

Highlight of the Day : Oyarzabal's goal - no, wait, "Eno" of course - football does not matter...
