And so, January, it's away...

On the last day thereof, up early and...

...downstairs...

...coffee cooked...

...and this, finally, brought ,fully up to date (ok apart from a few stray entries from a long time ago, of which I have a note to get done),...

This was done under good skies...

Breakfast, once more trying to emulate something good...

..."trying" being the operative word...

WFH soundtracked by new stuff from the weekend...

Fang popped by early on and, later, made a rare foray upstairs...

He left in the early afternoon...

But, later, he returned with Anne as she also returned, from pilates with Lynn...

More Dreamies for the wee man...

...as we enjoyed home made soup and scored 130 at "University Challenge...

Fang continued to relax as we finished off the "Hidden Assets" series on BBC4...

...which left us with the possibility of a further series - and with some just deserts still to be meted out...

Just before midnight, Fang had to be ejected to allow us to retire...

Some slashing of my hand ensued...

But I always forgive him...

Lights out...

Highlight of the Day : Long visits from Fang, despite the slashing...

Up and getting all the new stuff acquired over the weekend into the digital collection...

Outside, the storm had dissipated a little...

Loadsa new music to listen to...

Out to the shops for my mum, securing a few things for myself, trying to emulate the Tollcross granola from a couple of weeks ago...

Not bad...

...but nowhere near ass good...

A record played as I restarted the system re iTunes' continual crashing...

"Death in Paradise" enjoyed - the parting of Florence was rather sad though...

My 100 nominations for the (my) top 5 LPs of 2003 re the latest fortnightly poll were honed to these 30...

Off out through the rain to my mum's, stopping off on the way for new jeans, two pairs having been binned yesterday...

Despite all the circumstances of her ongoing leg problems, she was in reasonable fettle - and her new hearing aids made a wee bit of difference to the number of repeats required in our conversations...

Home through what seemed to be a fresh storm, via the town, as the ring road was chokka...

More listening while Anne prepped a v tasty chili...

"The Bay" enjoyed from the box and. later, playing selections form the new items...

Find of the weekend has to be Swedish improv band Kungens Män - they are playing in Manchester in April - I am tempted...

The rest of the evening spent bringing this almost up to date, with more to do tomorrow morning...

Lights out on a good weekend...

Initial scenes...

Happy Birthday to the Exec Producer!!

Out into the storm...

No idea...

Over to Anne's choice of breakfast place, The Haven at Newhaven...

I like this mill...

Excellent coffee...

Attractive, unpartaken of, cakes...

Fried eggs and avocado on sourdough toast for the birthday girl...

...and porridge with banana, raspberries, blueberries and honey for your correspondent...

Supertasty...

Discussions re Wordle and how I get sucked into wasting time on playlists...

Back home, some Emerson Lake and Palmer enjoyed, re an assertion by Rolling Stone magazine that thier next studio LP "Tarkus" was "mediocre"...

This led me to compile a list of other LPs released in 1971 to compare and contrast and some time was spent shuffling said playlist..

Which will come in handy when the fortnightly poll gets round to that year...

More trawling of my recent Wire back issues...

...and probably far too much new music brought into the collection as a consequence thereof...

Not to worry...

Took Anne and her mum to Tynecastle for today's 2-0 win against Motherwell (queens seem doomed, losing at home 2-0 to relegation rivals Dunfermline)...

I consoled myself by visiting the local record shop on the way home...

...and emerged after over an hour with these four items for £10 (as opposed to a copy of Nirvana's "Nevermind" on vinyl for £100 - there are some right mugs out there!)...

I had never heard of this South African lady but I am always on the lookout for new to me string quartets music and this did not disappoint...

Took a chance on this jazz disc of two 1958 LPs, not realising it features Miles Davis on trumpet and, a rare thing, flugelhorn...

I have a soft spot for Richie Havens...

...and had, until now, nothing by Al Kooper - producer of the Tubes' debut LP...

So, you know, it's all good...

this evening, out to Prana with Jane & Bobby for a quiet meal to further celebrate Anne's birthday...

Complimentary amuse bouches...

Drinks...

Lovely starters...

Superb mains...

Good chat - including various trips planned etc and, of course, unmentioned until now, Kitty's upcoming 6 week stay in Costa Rica...

Which I'm sure will be just fine and Dandy and Bob's blood pressure will return to normal at end March...

A walk up the hill and Jan and Bob took the bus along the road....

Highlights of the Hearts game enjoyed and some other TV too before calling it a night on a good birthday...

Highlight of the day : Anne's birthday...
