Tonight I called old chum James Jamieson to wish him a happy new year and ask if he fancied a visit to Out of the Bedroom...

He answered in the affirmative and so I drove round to pick him up just after 8pm...

Before leaving his house, we both had a go on his son, Conrad’s drum kit – we’ve still got it, I can tell you – but what “it” appears not to be, is any sense whatsoever of “rhythm”...

At OOTB we saw many well kennt faces and it was good to chat again with Chris Brown, John from Impossible Songs and the lovely Lindsay Sugden who, tonight, was in charge of writing the review...

Due to our tardy arrival, we had no chance of contributing to the night other than with our hearty applause...

Best act of the night for me was a young singer songwriter I’d not seen before, James Parkinson, who had a fine line in between song banter, including “if you know the words to this next one and want to sing along, I’ll be fucking surprised...”

He was probably not the same James Parkinson after whom Parkinson's disease is named...

We stayed to the bitter end before I gave Jamie a well deserved lift home – three pints of the old Nigerian lager had started to take effect on my musical cohort...

Back home just before midnight and Anne was still up and watching “This Week” and I joined her on the sofa...

And finally, in my lugs tonight, various piano pieces by the likes of Beethoven, Scarlatti, Schumann, Clementi, Chopin, Rachmaninov and Scriaben played by the master, Vladimir Horowitz....
