Friday and, while I was still coughing, that wasn't the reason I was up early...
The Exec Producer was off to Vienna, Salzburg and Munich with her sister Jane...
We were ready for the send off in good time...
Bob took the ladies to the airport at 6am...
...and so, the games began...
Scrambled Egg & Mushrooms with Toast for breakfast...
Success on a plate...
The day continued as normal, with downloading for #NewMusicFriday (see below) and picking a CD from the next box...
No 115: Curios to Miles Davis...
Since the next box comprises solely Mr Davis' discs, I chose this 1998 CD on the CMP label...
...featuring guest appearances from David Torn and Shankar...
Tasty modern jazz ahoy (even though it's now nearly 40 years old)...
Noted while playing a new acquisition of a live concert by Joe Henderson, from around the same time as today's CD, that it would have been Mr H's birthday today...
For #CDFriday, I posted this bundle of his CDs - from a box yet to come...
Then, connected up the DVD player to the TV and watched some of series 1 of "Heimat"...
Meanwhile, Anne and Jane had arrived at their hotel in Vienna...
It was reasonably warm...
Picked up a tram at Haymarket to the middle of Princes St then, a bus down to Canonmills, to the Hospice shop there...
Nothing found...
Anne and Jane were out exploring, sending back pictures of the greats...
Mozart...
Demi Lovato soundtracking...
I alighted at the Meadows, visiting a music stall there and a few more shops - nothing enticed...
On past the University - fifty years ago, I studied here...
Over to the venue for tonight's slap up with nephew Olly and asked that we might be granted a seat around 5:40 or so...
More mooching around the shops without finding anything...
I noted that Varsity Music is relocating...
It was in that very shop that I bought two of my first LPs, "Love It To Death" by Alice Cooper and "The Magician's Birthday" by Uriah Heep, back in late 1972...
It's quite a long time now since they sold any records or CDs though...
Took a wee wander into the Quad at the University...
Noah Kahan now providing the music...
Then two final chazzas - in the second of which, the PDSA on South Bridge, I finally found 4 CDs worth shelling out £2 for...
Back towards Kebab Mahal to await the arrival of Olly...
He was on a 31, having had to work from home, strictly, until 5pm...
Meanwhile the new one from ZHU was entertaining an old man hanging around at a bus stop, amongst a load of students, shopping at LIDL...
Getting here...
Olly had jumped off the bus a stop early, so he wasn't on this...
We met on the corner and arrived at KM in good time...
Pakora and curries enjoyed...
The afterwards ordered naan deserved a pic from the young man, who turned 25 two days ago...
Turned out Jane's friend Diane's son-in-law was in too - awaiting wife and baby...
Meanwhile, in Vienna....
Look at the size of those schnitzels!
An uncle and his nephew...
We were here for the latest stand up show by Henning Wehn...
Olly thought Anne was maybe here too, sitting a couple of rows in front of us...
Two hours of top entertainment from our German chum...
In part one, he read out a script he'd done for a BBC radio show, during which five things mentioned must be true while the rest were all lies...
At half time, this board advised the truths...
The second half was his new show "Acid Wehn" - all about climate change and how we're all fucked but, really, we ought not to worry about it as, by the time it goes tits up we'll all be dead...
That plus, don't have so many children, don't keep pets and stop consuming so much...
A Western European's carbon footprint is around 900 times that of an African's...
So, every time a woman in the UK has a child, it's the equivalent of giving birth to an entire African village...
Or something...
A 31 to Shandwick Place for us and then we jumped on a 26 - Olly alighting at the bottom of his hill, me staying on until the terminus at the top of mine...
Roadworks had to be negotiated...
The beast was on a bus...
Misty at the top of the hill...
The moon and Venus were out as I walked down...
Home at 10:20 pm...
Did I mention it was Friday?
To the machines...
Ripping and listening until gone 1am...
...and to bed with Barry White...
Kind of...
Highlight of the Day: Out with Olly...
