Today saw the end of 2024...
Another year of unbelievable stupidity on the part of mankind...
So it goes...
Here, a picture a day...
Good times, mostly...
But 2025 will be the first year since 1930 without my mum in the world...
But we go on...
Started off stormy - official Hogmanay celebrations cancelled...
I was up early sorting pics for last three days, writing this diary for last three days, downloading more Funk Inc (while enjoying the two LPs from yesterday, and Geza Anda re my dad's cassette that I found, that he'd bought at Reptile records...
And, of course, releasing the new LP
...and out it went, quite successfully all told, at 8am...
My releases this year...
2024 was my most successful year yet in terms of numbers of sales, numbers of downloads and numbers of streams...
Nos of sales (up 286% over 2020 and 31% over 2023)
Downloads (up 164% over 2020 and 41% over 2023)
Streams (up 206% over 2020 and 10% over 2023)
However, reflecting the ongoing decimation of musicians' earnings, the average price paid per sale has dropped by 70% since 2020 and is down 30% over the last year, while overall turnover, while up on 2020 by over 20% is down on last year by 9% despite a 31% increase in numbers of sales...
Bottom line, people are paying much less for music than they used to....
As Robert Fripp once said "if you want to be a musician, be a plumber..."
This is, of course, compounded by me, in that, here are my Top 20 LPs of 2024, not one of which I shelled out for (I did, however, buy over 340 CDs this year, just not any that were going to cost me £15-£20 when I can download them to my hard drives for free)...
Top Five
1 The Cure - Songs of a Lost World
2 The Bad Plus - Complex Emotions
3 John Grant - The Art Of A Lie
4 Godspeed You! Black Emperor - No Title as of 13 February 2024 28,340 Dead
5 Taylor Swift - The Tortured Poets' Department
And my CD purchases?
Here you go (including my home made Alice Cooper remasters), chronologically by release date...
Anyway...

That's 68.8%...
There is great new music around in abundance but there's just not enough time to listen...
At 1, round to Jane and Bob's to bring them back for an afternoon of New Year's Eve fun...
Anne had her timings ready for what turned out to be a top tasty lunch/tea...
Salmon and trout nibbles with drinks then a chicken with roast potatoes, carrots and asparagus...
...followed by a lovely trifle...
Xmas/NY was in full swing at Crispycat Towers...
Our guests made there way home around 6:30 and we relaxed for the rest of the evening...
As of tomorrow, all these LPs will be 50 years old...
Unbelievable...
Almost asleep by 11, we struggled on to midnight, me accompanied by this as my last listen of the year...
A few post midnight minutes of Sophie Ellis-Bextor and then, bed...
Into 2025...
Highlight of the Day : End of year lunch with Jane & Bob...
Today's New Music:-
