Up and at 'em...
Xmas is coming...
First project of the day was to listen back to "The Great Carving" and see if it remained as good as it seemed to be when I first did it a couple of weeks back...
It did...
In conversation with Sparky, he opined that "Milwaukee Road" ought to be a single...
To mastering the final version...
Listening back - problem - due to the dynamics between tracks, the masters can't be done as separate tracks..
The drawing board will require to be returned to...
However, in line with Sparky's chat, I used the masters to create a new two track single...
...and provided it to him for his thoughts before Anne and I headed over to Loanhead to meet with sister Sheila and the man from the people who ill be selling mum's house for us...
A good meeting...
Things sounding better than we expected...
Farewell to Sheila then, over to the Paper Mill in Lasswade for a nice lunch...
Cullen Skink...
Brie...
...and two Macaroni Cheese...
Good light as we exited - recorded, thus...
Home to a card from Count Brodski & Lady Penelope and cats...
Me and Brodski, 1976-1978, having fun at weekends and holidays, at Goldbergs in Tollcross (long since demolished), raising funds to fund music purchases, especially at nearby but now also long gone, Deja Vu Records...
Great times...
Edwardo said yes to the single - I made it so...
A surprise release ahead of our LP in January...
Then, looking back at records received as Xmas presents 1973-2023...
All 207 of them...
...and, then, whittling the list to the 126 which were received in the year of their release...
...of which, I suspect, there will be none this year...
The first 14 plus Eno's "RAMS" in 2020 were LPs, the rest were CDs...
Then, post tea, with Anne off to Tynecastle to watch Hearts once again throw away a game, with a 2-2 draw against Moldova's Petrocub, coming back from 1 nil down at half time, only to give away a penalty in the dying minutes and so exit Europe on "goals scored", I set about playing some of said records...
From Xmas 1982, Ryuichi Salamoto “Left Handed Dream”, with Robin Scott (M) and Adrian Belew. Also on board Yukihiro Takahashi and Haruomi Hosono from YMO…
Brian Eno’s “Drums Between the Bells” Special 2CD Edition, a present at Xmas 2011. Played the second, instrumental, disc…
The earliest release of all my Xmas 1973-2023 acquisitions. Sonny Rollins’ “Saxophone Colossus”, from 1956, with Tommy Flannigan, Doug Watkins and Max Roach. Apt title by the way…
“LC” by the Durutti Column , a Christmas present from the Exec Producer in 1981, back when we were big fans. The LP is long gone but the CD comes from the Japanese four disc set, comprising the first four studio LPs, from 1980 to 1984. Love this music…
On Anne's return, not too disappointed and happy to have the JTs concentrate now on not being relegated, a "Bosch" before bed...
Highlight of the Day : A new single, a nice lunch and my childhood home on the brink...
