A long day's journey into pizza...

Playlist
Various - iPod on Shuffleplay
Tangerine Dream - Tangerine Dream 70-80

Up early and packed and tidied...

...and out - our wee friend came to say "cheerio"...

What a cutie the wee man was...

Au revoir to the street...

Breakfast..

..at the Porta Romana...

...and tickets bought to the station...

...our last view of Florence (we thought)...

However, arriving at the station, we bought our tix to Bologna and then proceeded to miss the train by, literally, a matter of seconds - mainly due (we agreed) to a German in front of us being unable to work the ticket machine (despite the helpful assistance of a young lady who was later ushered from the premises by the police)...

Nothing to do with the fact that, despite having spent four days wandering round the city, it never occurred to us once to go to the station, check the train times and buy our ticket in readiness for it to be validated this morning...

Idiots...

As a consequence we had two hours to wait till the next train would make the 20 minute journey to Prato for our connection on to Bologna...

So we visited a site we'd not previously seen - me trundling our case along behind me under the hot sun...

Back to the station for the final hour's wait, looking longingly up the tracks...

Finally, around 11:30, we said goodbye to Firenze...

...I noted the poppies growing between the tracks on one of the many stops made on what turned out to be a longer journey than expected...

On arriving at Prato, we discovered it'd be another 90 minutes till the next train to Bologna...

Oh well..

We used the time wisely by decanting to a nearby eaterie...

...enjoying a wee drink...

..some bread...

...and the best pasta of the holiday - yum!

Back to the station...

...and an uneventful hour or so later we were finally at our destination, around seven hours after having left our Florentine lodgings...

A twenty minute walk, again trundling the case behind me...

...and we were ensconced in our lovely, spacious apartment...

...on the fourth floor with a balcony...

Out to get to know the town centre...

Our first glimpse of the city's most famous tower - one of very many...

The Exec Producer was suitably impressed...

Into the main square, the whole area had been pedestrianised for the weekend - not sure if it was due to our visit...

We went in search of and acquired, ice cream...

..before finding ourselves at the Western World's oldest University...

Impressive...

Looks like one guy in the throng was happy about something - the men in orange t-shirts were coming to take him away - perhaps...

A pause for a seat and a drink...

...then, more walking around, maintaining our ten miles a day average...

Bologna is a real foodie's town it seems...

Back to the main square...

We did not know and do not know now, who this was...

...but we liked this wee fluffy dog in the tourist office...

On the way back home a CD shop was chanced upon and a disc of Baroque Music of Bologna was partaken of...

Out for tasty pizzas at the very popular place round the corner, Pizzeria da Toto ...

All they serve, main dish wise, are very tasty pizzas...

Back home in the dark to watch the end of the Eurovision Song Contest...

It was one by a novelty bearded lady act from Austria...

Song-wise, I preferred Iceland, Finland, Denmark and France but I had the Austrian lady boy - or rather, man girl - tipped as an outsider...

Comfy bed after a long day...

Highlight of the Day : Pizzas, spaghetti and Bologna...
