Various - Weekly Playlist No 18
Yes - Discography 1969-2011
Up infeasibly early and working on this week's playlist...
Done and out for breakfast with Annie...
...at the Coffee Bean just down the hill...
Contemplating a possible trip to Düsseldorf in November for a double bill of German faves Fehlfarben and Deutsch-Amerikanische Freundschaft (DAF)...
In the afternoon, piked up Dr Prog and we headed to Glasgow, parked near Byre's Rd and had a wander round the environs, spotting this nice wee cat asleep outside a record shop...
So much junk - but one man's junk is another man's treasure - for us this was junk - one day it might be treasure - and so on, and so on...
Post a non-acquisitional visit to Fopp, we walked up round the corner near the Botanics and partook of a couple of rather filing pizzas...
Then walked on in search of The Lost Chord...
Not the Moody Blues album but yet another second hand record shop...
Rather a sob story from the man behind the counter re how his business was going utterly down the pan...
When you consider Fopp are selling vinyl for £15 and £20 less than half a mile away or so and even the later on visited and nothing bought from Oxfam shop are charging big bucks for records, perhaps he needs to have a rethink about his shop...
I staved off the bailiffs with a purchase of 4 CDs - which cost the princely sum of £4...
it does not bode well that, at nearly four in the afternoon, this was his second sale of the day...
Back towards Byre's Rd, I liked the name of this - Valhalla's Goat - I like goats...
We stopped off at a wee bakery on the way back...
..initially for some coffee..
...then some juice...
Dr Prog failed miserably to identify the background music using Shazam...
The same-named Shadows' B Side was considerably better than said app...
As ever, the Doc refused to cross against the Red Man...
Not realising, he was himself the Red Man...
Finally we made our way to the venue but parking restrictions pushed us a further mile away from our prog-related target...
A long walk...
...eventually passing the Hydro...
...towards the Armadillo...
...for a concert by the latest incarnation of Yes...
..with the transport rather far off in the distance...
Dr Prog was equipped with earplugs...
..and the scene was set...
The first set comprised both "Close to the Edge" and "Going For the One" in their entirety...
The musicianship on display was stunning - the performance was, to be honest, far far better than either of us had expected...
A well deserved break was taken - as were a few pics once the music had come to an end...
Here, someone walks past in front of us...
Unfortunately, during the performances themselves, various members of the audience found it necessary to take trips to the bar and the bathroom - having paid around £40 to see the spectacle...
Truly, there are some idiots in this world...
The second set comprised the whole of the 1971 LP "The Yes Album"...
It rocked...
A quick exit...
..before they returned for one last salvo of "Roundabout" from "Fragile"...
...and it was all over, Chris Squire's daughter joining the line up for the bow...
Excellent...
A brisk walk to the car and quick journey back to Edinburgh and to Castle Prog, where I received a message advising the Exec Producer and chum Lynn would be most appreciative of a lift home from the Murrayfield Hotel...
A good night would appear to have been had there too - with much imbibing, finding of money and sharing it with new chums from (coincidentally) Düsseldorf and entertainment from a singer - a touch of sadness too though, in that much of his repertoire had mirrored that of our departed chum Mr Jamieson Frain...
Home and some quick ripping of a couple of today's new entries to the iPod before hitting the sack...
A good day...
And it's only Friday...
Highlight of the Day : The superb musicianship of Yes...
PS More pics sourced from the web - uncredited, sorry...
Great performance...
