Up just before 6 but no time to write this up for yesterday...
Breakfast was the remainder of the bread, toasted, plus coffee and juice...
A last look around...
All tidied (unlike the previous residents who left such a mess it was still being cleaned up when we arrived on Monday afternoon)...
...car loaded and cottage locked up...
The final views of Grassington this morning...
...and off at 6:35 for the three and a half hour drive to Bowden Kirk, near Melrose...
...for the funeral of one of Anne's best friends and, often times, long leisurely lunch and ballet and contemporary dance of all kinds companion, Theresa...
Taken by untreatable cancer, only diagnosed in April but kept to herself until just a couple of weeks ago...
Hymns were sung, readings were read, a life well lived was much celebrated...
A lovely service with wonderful memories from her husband Chris, her four children and three granddaughters...
Then, with a private burial being undertaken, we drove to Melrose and toasted Teresa with some lovely ice-cream...
...and caught a glimpse of the abbey...
Then, to the village hall in Newstead, Teresa's recently adopted home town, for refreshments, home baking and good chat...
Chums Debbie and Sid had flown home from Portugal just this morning and got here as quickly as they could, arriving at the hall around the same time as us...
Also in attendance, old work colleague of over 24 years ago, Paul Trail, taking time away form his working from home desk especially to pay his respects...
Catch ups ensued...
For my own memory, here's the hall interior, of course it looked much better in reality - Teresa's daughter Anna had engaged a young lady to play the violin - including a couple of Teresa's favourites Vaughan Williams' "The Lark Ascending" and Bach's Cello Suites...
Around 2, we said our farewells and set off on the last leg of the journey home - to which around 45 minutes was added by congestion on the Edinburgh Bypass - don't these people have jobs to be at?
This evening, post unpacking and resetting things up, the last of "Van Der Valk" entertained...
...along with the next of "Reacher" Season 4...
Very enjoyable...
As were the last hurrahs of the holiday, vegetarian pizzas from Catch 92...
Good to be back home but a sad day - let's hope this was the last funeral for a good while...
