Up at 6 and finalising the new album – determining that I am happy with last night’s vocal on the last song...
Updated this...
Updated the crispycat website...
Listened through the finalised LP with the Exec Producer and it gained a thumbs up...
Compiled a quick disc of demos re the album as a possible second disc for the physical release and listened to this in the car...
Dropping Anne at her sister’s re an afternoon of niece Kitty’s dancing class’ annual show, I headed out to Loanhead to pick up me old mum for a day early Mothers’ Day celebration...
We couldn’t get a table at The Howgate so headed to East Lothian...
...to Gifford...
...and the Goblin Ha’...
...where, coincidentally we spent last years’ Mothers’ Day too...
On the way, Mum was interested in how the “Starlightnight” demos had been recorded – we both agreed it's amazing what you can do nowadays...
Upon alighting from the Cloudland Blue mobile, mum pointed out that I could have got a bit closer to the restaurant (albeit by blocking someone's garage - but mum's main thoughts are always about her ailments over anything else)...
Anyway, once into the restaurant, a slap up feed was enjoyed, with mum opting for lamb shank with mash and veg while it appears I had exactly the same meal as last year - the unpictured steak...
We had a good time, just nattering about this, that and the next thing...
After a wee rest post the main course, we took a look at the dessert menu and mum opted for the banana split, opining she probably wouldn't finish it...
I have never witnessed mum ordering a sweet without advising her doubts as to her ability to finish it...
When it came, Mum protested her banana split was too big...
I have never known my mum not to be able to polish off a sweet, no matter its size...
Suffice to say, said gigantic banana split was indeed polished off...
After a very enjoyable two hour lunch, we emerged into the sunshine...
On negotiating her re-entry into the car...
...mum asked if my seats were a bit low...
When I said it was sports car and advised they weren't any lower than earlier in the day, she uttered one of her two immortal lines (T shirts with these on it should be produced) "You don't know what it's like, son" - the other being "You just don't understand"...
We took the scenic route home via some old haunts in Dalkeith, Bonnyrigg, Lasswade, Poltonhall, Polton Brae and arrived at Loanhead at 4pm, listening to the new album on the way...
Mum advised it was “different”...
It has a quote on the sleeve from sister Pam...
“Is that your new album?” “Yes” “Can you put something a bit more uplifting on please?”...
Always honest...
Coffee at mum's - she insited on a biscuit despite the gut-busting intake just an hour or so earlier...
A true Reilly...
Back home - good to see this tree has survived the house building nearby...
Some Beethoven string quartets, compiled for my dad in 1998, accompanied a dish washing session, before I headed round to Jane and Bobby’s to pick Anne up...
Bobby and Olly were entertaining with chicken drumsticks, crisps and red wine...
Olly wondered about what happened to the rest of the chicken if he was just eating the legs - advising he thought the breasts went to Marks & Spencers while the rubbishy left overs went to KFC - I introduced him to the concept of dead people pies - with hospitals selling cadavers to pie manufacturers...
He thought that was funny...
Back home, “Harry Hill’s TV Burp” and the Adam Sandler vehicle, “You Can’t Touch the Zohan” entertained – the latter not quite as funny as its trilaer promised but still ok...
Lights out on a busy day...
Highlight of the Day : Thumbs up for the new LP from the EP / entertaining my mum...
