Today was the annual “Away Day” courtesy of “The Man”...
A very long day started with a bus trip to South Queensferry for a lovely, tasty breakfast at the Rail Bridge Bistro before a short boat trip, on the Maid of the Forth...
...out to Inchcolm Island...
...where we explored the Abbey answering quiz questions and lazed around in the sunshine before having a trip on an inflatable speedboat type thing...
...out to some further islands populated by seabirds including cormorants, terns, shags and, my favourite, puffins...
Then the boat back to Queensferry and onto the bus again for a trip down to Peebles and the Cardrona Hotel & Golf Club where we enjoyed a small buffet on arrival and took part in various activities, including Golf Driving Range, swimming and watching Italy and Rumania draw 1-1...
In the evening, a sit down meal, followed by more competition between three pre-selected teams involving the invention of cocktails, Twister and karaoke...
What I’ve not mentioned thus far is that the entire day was fuelled by drink...
Champagne at breakfast, drinks on the boat to the island, Elderberry wine on the island, drinks on the boat back from the island, lager and alcopops on the bus to Peebles, drinks with the buffet, drinks while we took part or watched the golf and swimming, drinks with and after the meal...
By 2:30 am, we’d been drinking for around 17 hours and I’d had enough and headed for bed...
My room mate, like me, was a rather loud snorer and so very little sleep was to be had – probably 2.5 hours tops...
