21st Century Schizoid Man...

Playlist
Various – Music from the Motion Picture “Heat”
Cloudland Blue Quartet – Nine New Songs
Steve Arguelles – Circuit
King Crimson – The Dream and the Illusion (Instrumental Disc)

Rediscovered a great film soundtrack in the music from Michael Mann’s “Heat”, which, if I recall correctly, is also a great film...

Absolute atmospherics from the main composer Elliot Goldenthal, most of whose tracks feature the Kronos Quartet. The album also features The Passengers (Eno & U2), Terje Rypdal, Michael Brook, Einsturzende Neubauten, Lisa Gerrard and Moby...

Watched the extra time between Germany and Argentina, probably my two favourite teams in the World Cup, the former since I started supporting them in the 1974 World Cup mainly due to the length of one of their player’s hair. His name was Ayala. His hair reminded me of Alice Cooper’s...

Here he is with Johan Cruyff...

This year they have a player of the same name, who ended up scoring against Germany today...

But the Germans won in the penalty shoot out 4-2 after a 1-1 draw...

Later we watched the first half of Italy v Ukraine. Apart from England, Ukraine must be the worst side in the last eight. Unlike England though, they don’t seem to have any players able to raise their game and play any better. If the England team played as a team whilst truly harnessing their individual talents they would surely be up there with Germany, Brazil, Italy and France...

Of those four, probably only Germany have performed at maximum strength thus far, the other three doing merely what had to be done to get through, though France have struggled at times...

Such a shame that Argentina and Germany had to meet so soon and so another excellent side bowed out...

At half time, with Italy one up we switched to watch “Law and Order” (catching the Italy – 3-0 – highlights later on....

After “Law and Order” Anne settled down to watch an hour long “Corrie” while I ran through my set for next Friday. From listening recently to my “Nine New Songs” disc, I’ve decided to play these nine songs, some for the first time in public – and I’ve also decided not to try and speed them up but to sing them as they were written...

The set hangs together well...

I ended the day listening to King Crimson from a compilation 2CD set I burned in 1998 – one disc is all instrumental and the other is all songs and one track is featured from each KC release available at the time, including compilations and official live CDs (of which at that time there were only a few rather than the seemingly hundreds available now) – and for the Crimso aficionados out there, here’s the track list:-
