Up just after six and initial listening and acquainting myself with Peri Urban's indicated songs we are to attempt...

Then looking at other stuff on the net, trying to sort out Flash etc etc...

Before I knew it it was 8am...

At 9:15, out in to the pouring rain with Mr Bowie...

...down Crispycat Hill...

...on through the pouring rain...

...past the Zoo...

..the road to Anne's mum's house...

...the road to Jane and Bobby's house...

...the Chinese Consulate and Murrayfield...

...Helen the podiatrist's...

...the Church from where I usually take the bus home...

...the ex Donaldson's School for the Deaf...

...a white Bentley, who's owner I know, parked outside a Sainsbury's Local...

At this point the battery of the Creative Jukebox gave out - luckily I had the Sony Walkman and the iPod along for the ride...

On up Morrison St and over to West Port past Love Crumbs...

...into the Grassmarket...

...and through it...

..up Victoria St to George IV Bridge and arrived at the music Library at 10:44...

..not bad going, counting a few stops to text from the relative dry of a couple of bus shelters - Dr Prog advising he would not be joining me...

Returned the discs borrowed three weeks ago which are unlistened to but have been ripped to a hard drive for later listening perhaps...

Did not take anything else out...

A further walkabout in the rain, securing sandwiches to take home for lunch...

Down Cockburn St - once a Saturday afternoon delight, now no longer...

..across Waverley Bridge, the tourists doing their best under the wet circumstances...

Driech...

To Fopp - no purchases - then back to the bridge and an Airport Bus boarded...

I fell asleep and was taken too far - jumped off, ran over the road through the now freezing precipitation and caught a bus back to where I ought to have alighted, ran over the road again and caught a No 26 up Crispycat Hill...

The beast etc etc...

Out into the snow...

..and down to the house...

...arriving home almost four hours to the minute from having left...

My accomplishments comprised (a) returning CDs to the library (b) securing lunch and (c) walking around seven miles, all told...

The last of the five discs of Maxwell Davies' Naxos Quartets had arrived during my absence...

The afternoon was spent listening to the radio, trawling through the hours and hours and hours of what must be absolutely the worst television possible (apart from infomercial and bid TV channels - but only just)...

Yes, it was last night's "Comic Relief" - trying to find a few minutes here, a few minutes there worth watching was an ordeal...

James Corden's speech contained some home truths but got to the very heart of the evening...

However, I still think they might raise even more money by promising that, if a certain target is reached, the show will be cancelled...

Some quartet listening while fine tuning potential Edinburgh Festival events to attend...

Delighted that QoS got an equaliser in the 3rd minute of injury time at Arbroath to stretch their unbeaten run to 14 games...

Concocted a tuna based dish for tea, then we watched a couple more episodes of "Spiral" series 3 - where the lead female cop's character has suffered a 90 degree turnabout in the morality stakes it seems...

Late on, a visit next door in a Comic Relief fundraising scenario and enjoyed some very entertaining tales on running a restaurant...

Home for "Law & Order : Criminal Intent" before hitting the sack...

Really should have spent more time today on the various music projects I've got on the go...

Not to worry...

And again up early, today uploading the soundscape album streaming players to the blog (See below and right)...

Soundtracked by Mr Eno...

So 25 discs (21 albums) are now there for anyone to take a listen - so why don't you?

A reasonable day uptown - these taken on the walk home...

...where the new Bowie album had arrived - we listened to it in the living room and were suitably impressed - biased though we are of course...

Anne asked "How old is he now?" "66" I replied...

"Just sounds the same as he always did"...

On later evening listening via headphones, only the track "Dancing Out in Space" is below his higher than most par...

The three extra tracks are better...

A lovely curry was followed by the first three episodes of "Spiral" season three...

Updating this to Messrs Bowie and Maxwell Davies...

Lights out...

Highlight of the day : The Next Day...

Stream the entire CBQ song and soundscape back catalogues right here, right now...

And, just for good measure, you can get the 2011 2CD songs and soundscapes retrospective "Aftersilence" too...

Up early and working yet again, uploading the soundscapes albums to the cloud in preparation for providing streaming players here...

A walk to McAllister Mathieson today but nothing enticed - the classical discs I'm getting second hand from the Amazon market place are too cheap to beat...

Some pics on the way...

Early evening, to Stockbridge for a meet with Jamie to chase up our visit of two weeks ago re possible dates for our Capital Models Covers Trio...

Sadly, none of the people we needed to see were around so, a wasted journey...

We had a good chat in Jamie's car as we waited to pick up his son, Conrad from football practice...

People have access now to so much music it's impossible to gain any traction unless you have a novelty tune like "Gangham Style", which was actually more about the video of course - and who's waiting on Psy's next record?  Yep, no-one...

Or you're already an established star - like David Bowie - but even then once the initial push is over there's nothing...

People move on so quickly now...

His new album will arrive here shortly - I think it will gain traction with me...

Because, for me, he is worth the listening time...

Close listening on headphones, one to one, is the way to listen to the few real artists left in the world - not a live concert, man, where idiots chatter, drink and watch it through their mobile phones...

It's still all about recorded music...

Glenn Gould was right...

Anyway, back home, and a call from old chum Peri Urban, catching up on stuff, not having talked for quite a while now - three and a half years ago we played an acoustic version of my album "Soundingfall" live together...

Now Mr Urban is up for some more playing - this time it'll be his tunes and I'll play bass - he's sending me the tracks and sheet music to learn...

So the projects are mounting up...

In the post, four of the five expected discs of Peter Maxwell Davies' Naxos commissioned string quartets arrived - I now have three to ten and await one and two...

The BBC4 series "The Sound and the Fury" turned me on to him last week re his work in the sixties...

I've always ignored Maxwell Davies but I was missing out big style it seems if these discs are anything to go by - brilliant tuneless avant garde writing - much recommended...

And so, since Saturday, these have joined the collection...

The yellow mag beneath the CDs is the programme for this year's Edinburgh International Festival - I suspect the Exec Producer and I will be taking in a few choice items in the late summer...

Lights out...

Highlight of the Day : Another project in the diary and a new unexpected discovery...

A good morning...

Up early again and some quick work...

Out into the cold sun, soundtracked by some of my more mental soundscaping and sky-saw guitaring from 17 years ago...

At lunchtime, a meet with brother-in-law Keith in Fopp to collect series 3 of "Spiral" - I was telling him of my experience with Spotify...

Some new stock has arrived - maybe Fopp's not down the pan after all...

I, of course, partook - some psychedelic rock (4CD set), Lou Reed & Metallica (2CD), Moby's latest, an old PIL album and a not quite so old Phil Manzanera disc...

At the counter, eschewing my glasses, I accidentally entered the wrong PIN for my card a goodly number of times, until it was blocked...

Using a standby, I later called the bank and cleared matters up...

Idiot...

On the way home, met brother-in-law Bobby power walking and joined him, telling him too of Spotify...

Back home, under an orange sun...

Two deliveries, a 4CD set of 20th century music including works by Tavener, Ligeti, Webern, Varese, Lutoslawski, Takemitsu, Cage and Schnittke -  a veritable feast...

The second, a five disc box set of the Alban Berg Quartett - yowsa...

So here I am ripping all these and the Fopp purchases to the hard drive, having just watched another dark episode of "Terminator : The Sarah Connor Chronicles"...

David Bowie's new album is on its way from Amazon...

But, tonight I decided to listen to it on Spotify...

This is the first time I've played a reasonable number of tracks on the service - the ads are intrusive - and there was me telling Keith and Bobby today how good it was too (having never endured an ad before)...

You seem to get two songs and then some ads...

Plus I'm noting the quality is not as good even as my home made 128kbps MP3s...

Now I know why I still buy CDs - I could, like Dr Prog, pay £10 pm to listen without ads but I still like to actually have something...

It'll be useful for trying out new stuff I suppose...

Meanwhile Anne is out for mother's Day with her mum and Jane at the restaurant where we were with my mum and sister on Sunday...

I am enjoying music and awaiting the call...

Highlight of the Day : New stock in Fopp...

Up early once again and, by the time the day was over, all eleven CBQ Soundscape albums had been reformatted and are ready for action...

Meanwhile the snow had it's last hoorah - late this afternoon most of this was gone...

Meg the Black Cat was not keen on the white cold stuff...

Out into it...

The beast etc etc...

At lunchtime, a reasonable Supertramp disc acquired at the British Heart Foundation shop for just two of your English Pounds...

Back home a package from Amazon...

Funny how you completely forget what you've bought when you do it mail order...

It is a superb disc of music by Belgian band B'Rock- a barqoque orchestra - the concept being they have a arranged John Cage's string quartet for their ensemble and combined it with Vivaldi's Four Seasons, giving the latter a whole new perspective...

Here's a wee taster - it's in Belgian though...

Up just after six and into the latest project - creating correct WAV files and MP3s for the CBQ Soundscapes back catalogue of 11 albums...

Some of the pieces are exceptionally long but, for my medium term goal, none can be longer than 26:29...

So, some work to be done on the editing without losing anything front...

A start made...

Out into a snowy day...

Much sliding around of cars while I walked past...

In the evening, telly and tivo and no work...

In the mailbox a request to participate on a colleague's upcoming recording sessions for their new album...

A day of work...

Housekeeping around the net on my various sites...

Research into possibilities...

Then, changing round the dining room...

Later, more work as Anne kept an eye on Hearts drawing 0-0 at Hibs (the latter having a perfectly good goal go un-noticed by the officials)...

Back to work and sorting out the uploading of players here to allow streaming of the nine CBQ song-based albums released to date...

In the evening, out into the snow and walked down to the Zoo and Cool Jade directly opposite, for a Mother's Day meal with Anne, mum and sister Sheila...

A long leisurely and very enjoyable dinner...

Highlight of the day : All of it really...

All nine CBQ song albums available for streaming right here, right now...
