Couldn't sleep and so, so as not to disturb Anne, I went down to the lobby and had a seat and a scroll accompanied by some music...
The view from the office this morning...
Looked like it was going to be a reasonable day...
Breakfast was good - a continental buffet scenario...
At 9:30 - out...
...and a walk to our initial targets in the city, passed the Parnell monument...
...and Enzo's chip shop...
..and down Marlborough street and over the river...
...to Trinity College, only to find it shut and picketed by striking civil servants...
Welcome to Dublin indeed...
The statue of Molly Malone was not able to be closed...
It seems visitors touch her inappropriately...
We walked on, looking for "the oldest house in Dublin"...
This is where it was supposed to be according to the map...
We headed to St Stephen's Park - but, once again, shut due to the strike...
A short visit to an exhibition on "breathing"...
It included a peat briquette from 1959...
Remember that for tomorrow's entry...
A passing bus was heading to Palmerston Park...
The sign did not show up in the photo- presumably it was not the home of the mighty Queen of the South...
We tried to visit Dublin Castle, approaching from the rear but it too was closed - this time as it's being used for Ireland's presidency of the EU...
Oh well...
We walked around to try and find the front for pics...
We passed the site of the first ever pneumatic tyre factory...
We walked around George's Street Arcade...
...and, in Spindizzy Records in the Arcade...
...I found this brand new promo copy for 5 Euros...
...but did manage to get this...
...and so, onwards...
We were searching for cathedrals...
We passed the Smock Alley Theatre...
...and the Handel Hotel (scene of the first performance of his "Messiah")...
...and on, to Christ Church Cathedral...
...and St Michael's Tower...
...and this bridge over Winetavern Street...
Onwards, passed the "Millennium Child" sculpture, commissioned by Bernardo's...
...and another closed by the strike park, St Patrick's...
...next to St Patrick's Cathedral...
Cathedrals done, we crossed into the Antique Shops laden Francis Street...
Anne reckoned this was me...
I tried a shot of this turning the tables hare...
This too was spotted...
A look round a huge and crammed Oxfam - I swithered over Andy Warhol's Diaries for 7 Euros and regret now not having bitten the bullet...
They had a ton of CDs at a Euro each but, to be fair to Anne, I didn't even look at them...
Probably for the best...
We continued on, passing the BIMM (British and Irish Modern Music Institute)...
...and some further interesting shops...
...and St Nicholas of Myra Church...
...and this...
...and back over the river again via Mellows Bridge...
...to Smithfield...
...and refreshments at the Third Space...
...outside of which Anne tried to sort some phone connection problems...
Done...
More walking...
...past the Friary, with its strange horse sculpture (and jackdaw in the corner)...
We bought 24 hour Leap cards to use tomorrow and Friday morning...
...and, as we headed back up O'Connell street, noted the back of the Portal...
Popped into Madigan's for drinks...
...had some crisps for lunch - we were out on the ran dan later, so, saving our appetites...
A short walk took us to Brannigan's for more drinks...
...before we headed back to the hotel for a rest...
An hour or so later, we were back out...
...and walked back down O'Connell, over the river, past Trinity College, and down Grafton Street to Kehoe's on Anne Street South, for more pre dinner drinks...
Around 6:45 we emerged into the fading light and took a short walk to our venue for this evening, Bah33 Brasilian Restaurant...
It's one of those places where you take what you want from the salads and sides buffet...
...then waiters bring cuts of meat to your table...
In all, we enjoyed eight (eight!) cuts across the evening, a few of which are pictured below...
We exited around nine, full to the brim with zero room for pudding and took the constitutional walk home...
Once again, past Trinity College...
...and Bank of Ireland...
...and back up O'Connell...
A very enjoyable anniversary...
Highlight of the Day: Anniversary dinner...
