Today, we were off to Dublin, to celebrate our wedding Anniversary tomorrow...
Packing done...
...a light breakfast and out at around 8:30...
...and down the hill...
...using our new super compact, under the seat in front, bags, which comply with almost all airlines' (and certainly, all we would ever use) requirements re such things...
A bus to the airport...
...and through security by 9:18...
Coffees with free refills....
...and to the gate at 10:36...
..where just far too many people had not realised headphones have been invented...
Boarding our 11:25 flight at 11:36...
The views from the office this morning...
...and early this afternoon...
...landing at 12:44...
...disembarking 15 minutes later...
...and on a bus into town by 1:15 - good going in the big scheme of things...
At 2:05 we were approaching our target of Parnell and O'Connor Street...
...noting the very impressive indeed, "The Spire of Dublin"...
We were a tad too early for entry to our hotel, so popped into the nearby Parnell Heritage Pub for drinks...
..and a top notch late lunch...
Then, into the Hotel - we were allowed to choose our own room - of all those available, we chose the one with this view, for relative quietness reasons...
Unpacked and out to get our bearings...
The spire is quite tall...
This "pano" pic belies its sleekness...
This, from its base, does not...
A walk ensued - past the GPO building, still bearing the scars of the 1916 uprising...
More views of the Spire were afforded...
...along with other "interesting" items...
Over the river...
......and we ended up back on the North Side, at Wolf Tone Square, one of seven locations in the city for The Tram Cafe...
Places of interest were marked on the map...
Back over the bridge...
...and into Temple Bar...
...where a swift visit to Mojo Records brought no acquisitions...
...out again and a short walk to Trinity College, via the Bank of Ireland...
...and on, down Dawson...
...and passed the Mayor's residence...
...and along opposite St Stephen's Park...
...to Reilly's Bar (ok O' Reilly's on the cut off above door signage)...
...but, for some reason, Reilly's on the doors...
Swift halves were enjoyed...
Out and the walk back "home" - up Merrion Street, with its fine buildings in the gathering dusk...
The Office of the Attorney General...
Department of the Taoiseach...
The Irish Parliament...
...and the National Gallery...
Up Westland Row, passing Oscar Wilde...
...and the Royal Irish Music Academy...
...and St Andrew's Parish Church...
Pearse Street Station...
The Academy...
...and onwards under the bridge...
...and along Pearse Street...
...and back over the river onto O'Connell Street...
...and the Spire once again...
...and the Portal - showing scenes from the UK and Czechia...
...watched over by James Joyce...
To Enzo's - the best chip shop in Dublin - for a bag of chips for us both, with the addition of a couple of sausages in mine...
...a quick nip into LIDL for some overnight water and then, home...
Where Anne enjoyed some football...
A good start...
Highlight of the Day: Back in Dublin for the fost time in a very long time...
