Anniversary day - 46 years of fun...

Initial scenes...

Out for a celebratory breakfast...

A drive to Stockbridge...

...and a walk to Cafe Andaluz...

...for coffees...

...and sour dough toast with smashed avacado, chorizo, poached eggs and Hollandaise sauce...

Yowsah!

A look around the shops resulted in a purchase for the EP...

...a lovely bangle...

Back to the car...

...and home - no lunch required...

Today's CD Box...

Mostly Brahms again...

Maybe I have too much Brahms?

Nah...

I eschewed the big bearded maestro for Glenn Branca’s Symphony No 9 from 1995...

...which is, frankly, tough going...

Tuneless but not in a good way - with a choir making it even worse along the way…

It gets slightly better as it progresses…

Slightly…

The second, 12 minute piece, “Freeform”, kind of made the disc worthwhile…

Some time spent on my, now, Top 30 (so far) of 2026 (I have 34 possibles at present)...

A visit from Fang and then off he went...

Goodness knows what he gets up to all day...

An afternoon discussing possible setlists for the band - Keith has suggested we do a more punkish/new wave-ish selection of songs - but hasn't actually suggested any new songs to do...

I went down a Rezillos rabbit hole...

Reading their story, at outset, they were, in fact, what Keith is suggesting for us...

"Having spent several months practising, the group's debut live performance was at Teviot Row House, the students' union building of the University of Edinburgh, on 5 November 1976, playing a set composed entirely of cover versions of 1950s and 1960s classics.

The set included "I Like It" and "Somebody's Gonna Get Their Head Kicked in Tonite", which would both appear on the band's debut album, and concluded with "I Wanna Be Your Man", which later became the B-side of their debut single.

The band were an instant hit and began to grow rapidly in popularity as they gigged constantly: Callis estimated that the Rezillos played around 200 gigs in 1977."

...apart from us not actually playing gigs and not being an instant hit or growing rapidly in popularity...

I explained to the guys re songs suggested for covering and the learning of new songs that...

"I need to educate myself to allow us to play new songs over and over in the room together - something I never enjoy, to be honest - which is why I'd always prefer it if we got to grips with a song at home pre rehearsals - but I'm willing to go with the flow if you guys would rather play stuff over and over until we get it.

As regards choosing covers, I do need to be comfortable singing the songs and that's often why I will veto a suggestion - cos I just can't sing them!

I think it's a lot easier to "play" a song you don't know via a song sheet than it is to "sing" it with any sense of conviction - I'm pretty sure I can play (as opposed to sing) anything I can get a sheet for.

Unfortunately, that means it's therefore unlikely we'll do any songs I am unfamiliar with or don't like/can't sing...

I have nothing against any suggestion being put re songs to do but they need to fit with those criteria - it's nothing personal.

So, if you come up with a song I've never heard of, it's unlikely I'm going to want to do it unless I find it's really got something to it, via my first few listens..."

An evening of TV post home made potato, leek, carrot and onion soup and a roll with Quorn smoky ham, which was tastier than it sounds...

Three episodes of "Chicago PD", 120 on "University Challenge", Harry Hill's podcast on Youtube, with guest Stewart Lee and, then, possibly a little too much vintage "Harry Hill's TV Burp" - but that show needs to be recommissioned...

Bed around 11:30...

Highlight of the Day: Anniversary breakfast...
