Up super early as I had work to do...
...which included the choosing of and recording of said choices, re the next seven or eight CD boxes in my "CD Box a Day" project...
...purchased for 50p from the Red Cross in Berwick Upon Tweed, 12 November 2024, coming home from the CBQ performance in Whitby...
Wonderful...
But no time to listen just yet...
Out around 8...
...down the hill...
...and the airport bus...
...to, erm, the airport...
Through security swiftly...
...and a light breakfast...
To the gate...
..and onto the plane - all going according to plan...
...taking off right on time...
A free sandwich and drink on the way was a nice touch...
Over the North Sea we flew...
...to the Netherlands...
...landing at Schipol right on time...
...followed by a 15 minute taxi-ing by the plane...
...to the terminal...
...and around 30 minutes to clear passport control...
Out and to the station....
...for the train into the centre...
...arriving at Centraal around 14:50...
It took over an hour for us to get our bearings and locate the correct mode of transport to our lodgings...
We couldn't find a 22 bus and the 14 tram was cancelled due to some demonstration along its route...
We managed to catch a 26 tram to around 10 minutes walk from our target - but, then, went the wrong way re our final walk...
We arrived just after 4 and were introduced to the accommodation by our host, Rene...
Lovely views...
...from our houseboat for the next seven days...
Unpacked and out for a walk around the environs...
...to nearby Javastraat and...
...Cafe Gijs de Rooy for first, very expensive, drinks of the holiday...
My "pint" (actually 0.5 litres) was over £10...
Anne's Heineken was a little closer to home prices...
We were entertained by the local dog...
...the splendid surroundings of this "brown bar"...
...the Ajax game on the big TV (while, back home Queens won 5-1 away at East Fife)...
...and second drinks - with me opting too for a Heineken this time...
As the light faded, we made our way back out into the bitter cold...
...and enjoyed a walk along Javastraat and back...
Diagonally opposite the bar...
...we noted a Frites Shack...
...and an unpictured Frites-based snack from the shack was enjoyed...
Further walking took us along to the windmill on the Singelgracht, the De Gooyer...
...and more drinks were enjoyed at another nearby bar, Mooies Boules - with its indoor Boules area...
Then, back out into the cold and back to Javastraat, leaving the windmill behind...
A Fast Food tea...
...followed by a visit to the Albert Hein supermarket opposite our first bar...
...and home...
...where wine and crisps accompanied...
...Germany v Norway in the Handball Euros...
...and off to bed, ready for the real start of the holiday, tomorrow...
Highlight of the Day: Back in the 'Dam, it's been too long...
