Capital Models - 2022-09-10 Roslin Fete

Up a wee bit early...

...but there was work to be done...

Today, Capital Models were returning to the stage to play at Roslin's village fete...

I realised I'd left my mic switched on on Thursday night -  a quick recharge was required...

...and some stuff was also needed from the attic...

Eventually, all was ready...

...to be loaded...

...into the car...

I arrived just before 10...

Shortly thereafter, the stage was completed...

...and we could start loading our gear...

At this point, Paul hadn't arrived and there seemed to be "discussions" taking place amongst the sound crew - their main person had pulled out this morning due to a "child care emergency"...

We were assured the three remaining attendees were au fait with everything...

It soon became clear there were problems...

We were able to sound check to our own desk on stage (the idea was for the main PA to be fed a signal from our desk - pretty simple stuff really), with Keith and Stu playing along to the rhythm of John's sticks on his electronic kit, while John and I monitored on headphones...

It all sounded fine...

Finally, they linked us up to the main desk...

"A tidy stage is a happy stage", as they say...

Erm...

We left the sound crew to their devices...

Paul arrived and we had another check via headphones on our own desk...

...meanwhile, problems appeared to be persisting...

We were ready...

...but still they were not...

With the deadline fast approaching, we decided to use our own PA and monitors, for which our sound check lasted around all of 2 minutes...

But it did sound fine...

As a junior brass band kicked things off in front of the stage, we pushed all our equipment back, in preparation for a choir to take to the boards...

There was an interminable delay while the sound crew attempted to get things to work...

The choir was finally able to commence around 40 minutes late...

They were enjoyed by Paul and Keith...

Quite good all told...

Finally, we made it to our performance...

Our "crowd pleasing" set comprised...

"Proud Mary"...

"Big Yellow Taxi"...

"Perfect Day"...

"Make Me Smile"...

"Virginia Plain"...

"Starman"...

"Folsom Prison Blues"...

"Heroes"...

"Suspicious Minds"...

"Stuck in the Middle With You"...

"Rhinestone Cowboy"...

"Sweet Caroline"...

...and "Mrs Robinson"...

It went pretty well indeed, surprisingly so, given the stress beforehand...

The downside was Paul and I had to wear headphones to monitor matters properly, while Keith and Stu had a less than satisfactory sound on stage via the monitors (John always monitors via phones)...

The takedown was reasonably quick, after which I headed home, Paul having already left, being still under the weather post his week long Covid...

Home and I quickly edited the recordings and mailed a link to the boys...

Later on, Stu advised the band after us had also had sound problems and took the stage a further 40 minutes later than their already very late start time...

Oh well...

At 7, out and along to the Murrayfield Hotel for a splendid family celebration re mother-in-law Mary's 90th birthday today...

Good to see Kitty and Olly...

...Craig, Rebecca, Blair, Murray and, a here unpictured, Abby...

...all for the first time in a long time...

Here, everyone but me...

Tasty courses comprised (for me) Cullen Skink...

(with Chicken Sate for Anne)...

...Lamb for us both...

...and Cheesecake for us both (I'd already eaten the strawberries off the top and the prosecco ice, when I remembered to record it)...

Much drinking and carousing ensued and then the presents and cake were presented and candles lit...

...and extinguished...

...before various family portraits were taken...

Mum, Jane and family...

Mum, Keith and family...

Mum, Anne and family...

Mary and her kids...

And, finally, everyone...

Bob, Craig, Anne, Jane, Keith, Maureen, Mary, Abby, Blair, Rebecca, Murray, Olly, David and Kitty...

An excellent night...

A small hot chocolate nightcap preceded a bus home...

Quite a day indeed...
