Cloudland Blue Quartet - Ersatzreal Companion EP #2
This is the second in a trilogy of companion EPs to last year's "Ersatzreal" album and features "The Angels' Kiss" from the LP, together with three more tracks from the "Ersatzreal" sessions, "A Happy Song", "The Golden House" and "I Still Write You Letters", none of which appears on the LP...
The release of the third and final companion EP is scheduled for September this year...
David Reilly Anthology 1977-2007 Vol Six (1996-1997)
This is the sixth of ten volumes of the 175 track 30 Year Anthology and sees the first appearance of the new name, Cloudland Blue Quartet, taken from the 1993 Heavenly Music Corporation album, "Cloudland Blue".
Cloudland is a metaphor for heavenly, whilst the "blue" element refers to the downbeat nature of the music. Quartet of course is meant to symbolise the extensive use of overdubbing which allows many versions of the same person to appear on one recording.
This volume of the anthology contains 16 tracks, is entirely instrumental and features ambient soundscapes, abrasive sky-saw guitar solos, calming synth pieces, raucous Neu! motorik beats and orchestral samples...
Subsequent volumes will be released on the last day of each month between now and the end of November 2008...
So what did I get up to today in celebration of these new issues into the universe of music?
Well, after advising yesterday I had nothing booked for this year’s plethora of festivals in Edinburgh (and I’ve already missed the Film Festival which moved to June this year), I met up with Anne tonight to attempt to procure tickets for Richard Herring’s opening night of “Headmaster’s Son”...
It was sold out...
We did get tickets for Sunday’s show though and, over the weekend, a couple of films will also be taken in at the Filmhouse...
So, at a loose end, as there was nothing else we fancied, we went to ace vegetarian Wine Bar and Restaurant, Henderson’s and enjoyed a rather tasty bottle of Argentinian Tempranillo...
After quaffing this we headed out to find somewhere else for dinner and tried nearby The Dogs but couldn’t get a table, so we walked on down towards Stockbridge and stopped off at a great wee bar called Iglu...
Here, I enjoyed a couple of pints of Black Isle Brewery Blonde – coincidentally, we visited this brewery a few years ago and I’m still on their mailing list – while Anne partook of a couple of tasty gin and tonics...
Of course by this time we were a little the worse for wear and very hungry indeed...
Heading on down the road, we arrived at one of our all time favourite eateries in Edinburgh, Bell’s Diner and just managed to procure a table, to which were soon brought a lovely burger for Anne and a Nutburger for me, harking back to my veggie days – both accompanied by a plentiful salad and a pile of tasty chips to which were added several relishes...
All washed down with a bottle of Peroni each...
Then a leisurely stroll back up to Princes Street and home...
A good night...
Highlight of the Day : A good night out on the town with Annie Milannie...
