Hmmm, no new classical this week...
Post breakfast, no listening yet, for, as Anne went to Zumba, instead, I was setting up the equipment for tomorrow for a test...
I made a bit of a mess of the room...
But, it all worked...
...and was all tidied away by the time Anne returned...
"Bergerac" enjoyed with lunch...
Then, to listening...
I am liking the new Bryan Ferry, with spoken word from Amelia Barratt...
...but, I wanted an instrumental version - which would have been nice for Mr F to have included but he didn't - unlike Mr Eno when he released "Drums Between the Bells" back in 2011, also, essentially, instrumental tracks with spoken word poetry overlaid...
So, I spent some considerable time using FADR to remove the vocal from each track and creating an alt version of the 37 minute LP. The "backing tracks" are demos from across Ferry's recording career, which makes for some "interesting" listening...
Also this afternoon, I put together some rather hubristic between set playlists for tomorrow, replacing my usual "disco" playlists as, frankly, I've never seen a single person up dancing to those - the audience prefers to replenish their tables from the bar during the breaks and, post our ending, has usually thinned out to a few hardy, worse for wear, souls...
So, I gathered together all 142 songs recorded for the, thus far, four CBQ "GLAM!" albums....
I reduced this pool to the 52 of those which are in Capital Models' repertoire...
Then, I took out the 18 of those 562 which will be played by the band tomorrow night...
The remaining 34 were then fashioned into, firstly three 15 minute playlists to intro each of our three sets and, then, an 87 minute playlist to take us through to the end of the night post the third set...
Of course it's unlikely anyone will hear the end of this last playlist but it needed to be prepped nonetheless...
So, pre/between/post sets we will have CBQ playing:-
Lou Reed, Brian Eno, The Velvet Underground & David Bowie...
Roxy Music, Soft Cell & Lou Reed...
Roxy Music, The Velvet Underground & Brian Eno...
David Bowie, Brian Eno, The Velvet Underground, Pink Floyd, Lou Reed, Bryan Ferry, Kraftwerk, Roxy Music, The Who, Sparks & Elton John...
So, that was fun...
Early unpictured but very tasty Jumbo Prawn Pasta tea was followed by taking Anne into the Assembly Rooms for tonight's talk by Lucy Worsley's "An Audience with Lucy Worsley on Jane Austen"...
"Following her sold-out Agatha Christie tour, acclaimed historian Lucy Worsley leads us into the life of one of English literature's most cherished figures.
For these live, beautifully-illustrated talks, Lucy invites audiences to step into the world of Jane Austen, the beloved author of timeless classics such as Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, and Persuasion.
Through the houses, places and possessions which mattered to her, Lucy takes a fascinating look at what home meant to Jane and to the women like her who populate her novels. Austen famously lived a 'life without incident', but with new research and insights Lucy reveals a passionate woman who fought for her freedom. A woman who, far from being a lonely spinster, in fact had at least five marriage prospects, but in the end refused to settle for anything less than Mr Darcy.
"It is a truth universally acknowledged" that this is an event not to be missed!"
First half was Ms W's very interesting and insightful talk on the subject in hand, second half was a Q&A on, anything really...
The EP advised much time in the Q&A was spent on Hampton Court (which we visited a couple of years ago during our stay at Clapham), where LW worked for a number of years before becoming the documentary making historian TV personality she is today...
Apparently there are over 1,000 rooms at Hampton Court - and, despite her years there, LW has not yet seen them all...
Anyway, me?
I was back home awaiting a call for a post show pick up...
For #CDFriday this week, I chose ten items off the Living Room Shelf...
...and played a track from each...
Someone on Blue Sky posted up a 2LP set of Genesis' "Nursery Cryme" and "Foxtrot" so, of course, I had to post my version, released on Buddah in 1976...
At 9:30, Anne was on a bus so, down to the Zoo to pick her up and home to enjoy both the final "Death in Paradise" of 2025 and the first "Beyond Paradise" of 2025...
To bed post midnight...
A kind of packed day but not really too packed...
Highlight of the Day : Equipment working...
