Up and to work...

Scenes...

Welcome to Yes Day...

Downloading on New Music Friday - as usual...

Dentist at 8:30 with the last of the seven (seven!) fillings I've had since switching from my old dentist, who had declared all was fine.  Weird...

Then, out to my mum's...

Quite depressed about it all but I managed to cheer her up and give her a few pointers...

I think she is finally realising that any movement under her own steam is off the table...

But, but, the opportunity to go out and about still remains and there is, really, very little indeed that she used to do that she cannot now do...

Home and continuing with adding new stuff to the phone...

Out around 11:30 and down the hill for the bus to that Glasgow...

Did I mention it was Yes Day?

Just missed a bus by a whisker but only had to wait 15 mins for the next one and, at noon, I was on my way...

...arriving just after 1...

Dr Prog was running a couple of hours later than me...

So, a solo scout around and the first thing I see, outside tonight's venue no less, is the little arse who has done so much to ruin Scotland over the last few years, in conjunction with the Scottish Nazi Party...

Anyway, I am a creature of habit and so, a visit to Love (no purchases), then down to the Shelter shop on Union St, where all of these were secured for just three and a half pounds...

Then to Fopp (no purchases) and on, to Missing, arriving around 2:10...

People were excitedly buying stuff...

I spent some considerable time going through the jazz and classical sections, to no avail and, then, amongst the new arrivals, decided to partake of a 2CD set of King Crimson in Chicago in 2017, for a, these days, unprecedented, £8 (knowing for sure I already have a download but nice to have the thing)...

...and then, trawled the £1 (3 for £2) section, finding three items...

On inspection though, one had to go, leaving these two and the search on for a replacement third...

Then I spied a "veritable shitload" of CDs for £1 on reasonably inaccessible shelves...

The only way to see much of the stock was to take a photo and then scan through it...

This is how I waste my time...

However, I found a further four CDs...

...and took my haul to the counter, having received a message that Dr Prog had landed in the Weedge...

And so, out, past the foyer where I'd perused the jazz and classical...

I'd spent 90 minutes going through, for the most part, rubbish...

But had found the King Crimson and six other, subjectively, good items...

Dr Prog though, was nowhere to be seen (turned out he thought he knew where Missing was but got it wrong)...

And so, back in, with a nod to the girl who had served me...

...and looking through even more rubbish...

...amongst which, I found three more items, just as Dr Prog arrived...

Tomorrow back home...

...the haul in its entirety...

I noted they also sell old football programmes - no Queen of the South though...

Out and a walk in search of sustenance...

We decided upon La Pulcinella, for pizzas...

But first, a couple of drinks at new to us, The Pot Still - a haven for whisky drinkers...

We, however, were on the lager...

A good chat with a German couple (Ludovic and Victoria I think) who sat at our table...

They were going round the UK in a VW campervan and were nearing the end of their stay...

Turns out they came from Fulda, not far at all from Felsberg, home of Jorg Sonnenschein and where the Exec Producer and I lived in 1980/81...

Out, into the rain...

...and over the road to the restaurant...

I had an unpictured prawn cocktail to start then, tasty pizzas...

...during which the doc tried to explain to me how it was he ended up watching so much utter and complete shite on YouTube - it seems he cannot somehow resist anything and everything which the algorithm throws art him...

He was either quite proud of that, or was looking forward to the cheesecake...

By this time, the doors were open and it was a short walk for us to the venue...

Did I mention it was Yes Day?

In and perusing the Roger Dean exhibition in the foyer...

Pricey...

Spotted a look-a-like, who later sat in the row in front of us (the front row) and was also across the aisle from us on the bus home...

Anyway, into the hall, nice and early...

...and, pre taking our seats, a look around the stage...

Howe...

Downes...

Setlist...

Davison...

Schellen...

Sherwood...

We were in the second row with an excellent view...

Next to us was a comparatively young (29) Italian girl, Helena Ross (EP on Spotify apparently) studying in Glasgow and writing a thesis on Prog Rock!  Yes are her favourite band - she has the tattoos to prove it...

Our seats had been purchased a very long time ago indeed - I'm pretty sure this concert has been postponed twice and, at one point, was going to be a performance of the 1974 LP "Relayer", probably Yes' most complex work...

Instead, tonight, they played a fine selection of works from across 9 different LPs, including a 20 minute medley of the 1973, 80 minute double LP, "Tales From Topographic Oceans"...

I took a few pics...

First set lasted around an hour...

Second set (no pics apart from the stage exit) around 40 mins...

And a 25 minute encore of "Roundabout" and "Starship Trooper"...

An absolute top night from the band, all of whom appeared to be having a blast...

And that was it...

The years long wait had been worth it...

A quick walk round to the bus station and we managed to catch the all important (as it takes 30 minutes less time than those after it) 10:30 bus to Edinburgh...

However, due to "overnight repair work", the motorway was shut and a detour was required, adding around 20 minutes to the journey...

Goodbye for now to Dr Prog, who was staying on till Haymarket and hoping an eatery there might still be open - despite his earlier pizza and cheesecake...

I alighted at the bottom of Crispycat Hill, where, very kindly indeed, Annie was waiting to take me home...

To bed with Yes on the cans...

Highlight of the Day : Yes, live...
