The last 5 years and today...

2019                  2020                  2021                   2022                  2023                   2024

And so, 65!

Today I am the same age my dad was in 1995...

I admit I do look a little like him...

"Put some shoes on, Dave!"

Arguably, the best day of the year...

Omelet (kind of) on toast for breakfast...

Present and card opening...

Money, wine and chocolate...

More cards arrived later from music chums...

Over to Bonnyrigg to see my mum, this the view as I waited to enter the ward...

...and this from my mum's window, the rabbit and the crow...

...and an old lady enjoying a cake...

Mum could not remember what age I was...

Oh well...

At 11am our time, Jorg and Manu got married in Felsberg (pics are stills from a wee video received when I got home this evening a 1am)...

We would have been there and I would have been Jorg's best man, had the band not already been contracted to play at a wedding here today...

A drive home to find Anne's mum asleep in the living room...

Half an hour later it was back into the car...

...with the ladies...

...and along to the Hampton...

...for a birthday lunch...

Celebratory Coke Zero...

...wine...

...and wine...

Goujons for Mary...

Macaroni Cheese for Anne...

Chicken with Haggis for the birthday boy...

...all followed by coffees...

...and taking Mary home...

Back at Crispycat Towers, Fang popped in to say "Happy Birthday" to the big man who gives him Dreamies (and to get some Dreamies)...

All too soon, he was gone...

Then, to recording the podcast and getting it uploaded...

All done just in time to load up the car and drive out to Kirknewton, arriving at 16:45...

...to find that the guests had not yet started the main course and so things were a wee bit behind...

Of course, it turned out I had the music for the first dance on the wrong machine and so I was soon back home - and by 6 back again at Kirknewton...

In the meantime, the boys had loaded in everything apart from my stuff...

Set up and sound check took until 7pm and so, we commenced playback of the string quartet playing music from our repertoire which may not be played by us later, just about on time...

Here, the desk settings were noted...

As at the Dockers, we were unable to feed the vocals to the monitors so I had to rely on the sound coming back from the room...

Pre tables being moved to create the dance floor, cards from John & Ali Impossible and from the boys in the band...

Paul knows that a tidy stage is a happy stage...

The view from his station...

And drummer Johnny's, with guitarist Johnny...

...and bassist Keith's..

...and singer/guitarist Dave's...

Johnny Impossible's stage outlook was not recorded...

But, but, courtesy of his blog, he did take this of his set up...

...and this of the stage pre Johnny W's lights...

Nice...

The important cake was recorded by me though...

...as was the garden where the marriage had taken place this afternoon - with drummer Johnny and cake maestro Moira in attendance..

Bride Tracey's backdrop creation...

...had some lights added by Drummer Johnny...

...while she and groom Paul practised their 1st dance...

The stage was set...

With the string quartet coming to a close, it was time to cut the cake (though I did not see any actual cutting taking place)...

...and then, the gathering for the first dance

...to the recently retrieved "At Last" by Etta James...

Our first set followed, with people up dancing from the off, which was gratifying but, I suppose, to be expected, as it was a wedding...

After our 35 mins set, there was a fine display of Spanish Dancing from the bride and her colleagues...

...followed by some Ceilidh dancing, organised by Johnny W and Moira...

Then it was back to us for our 35 min set two...

After which a break for some disco dancing and the buffet...

...on to our 45 min set three, which was supposed to have been followed by more ceilidh but, due to late running and busses, taxis and, indeed, trains starting to take guests away, we moved straight into the two slow songs we'd learned at the couples' request and then, eschewing our final set, just moved straight to our final song...

However, on its ending, we were called back for five encores - meaning, all in all, only five of our rehearsed songs for the evening remained unplayed at the end...

Some eventful disco dancing took us up to the end of the night as we dismantled the equipment...

Here money restored to the upside down man's pockets...

Moira had had a great day...

As had we all...

Car loaded, drive home, car unloaded...

One last look at the birthday display...

To bed around 1am...

A good day...
