Two hotels, an apartment and a church...

Playlist
Various - The "Good Songs" Playlist on Shuffle
The Rain Dogs - Slow Black Crowblack
Various - Cloudland Blue Eclectic Selection 2016 Vol 46

Up reasonably late...

...but, nothing to do except fine tune a 1,600 track, 117 hour playlist of subjectively "good" songs and pack my "things to take on holiday" - which, for me, comprises, various machines; the things and leads which allow said machines to be kept powered up; various sets of headphones; and a Bluetooth speaker...

Today, a drive south to the North of that England, taking the slow route...

Car checked and off at 9:30, with the playlist on shuffle - very enjoyable...

Lunch around 12 at Langholm...

We chose the currently being renovated after having been bought during the pandemic, The Crown Hotel...

The Americanos bode well...

...and, indeed, the promise was fulfilled...

Good chat too with the owner, a young man from the Lake District...

Onwards and, without having spent a single moment on a dual carriageway since leaving the environs of Edinburgh, we arrived at our destination, the Cumbrian village of Alston, at 2pm...

...right on time to gain entrance to our apartment...

Looking good...

Unpacked and out for a walk around...

Round the corner from the Market Square where we are stationed is the Church of St Augustine of Canterbury...

Dedicated to St Augustine of Canterbury, the first record of a Church on this site dates to 1154, when King Henry II appointed Galfrid as rector...

The current Church dates from 1869, when the Church of 1770 was demolished (at a cost of £74 and 11 shillings) and a new building erected for the sum of £4,245 15s 8d...

A spire was added in 1886 – cost not recorded..

Inside, can be found a reredos dating from 1899, the 16th Century Derwentwater bell and an oak chancel screen, which is a memorial to those of Alston who fell in the Great War 1914–1918...

We walked on down the hill...

...and looked back up...

...noting how far we are from other places...

We found a place that was open, The Cumberland Hotel...

...and partook of their hospitality...

...out on the verandah...

...with its lovely views...

A second round was secured...

...and enjoyed in the company of a wee beast...

A walk back to our apartment...

Many of the buildings in the village are unused...

This shop had an old keyboard instrument with Chopin sheet music, waiting to be played...

We walked up "Front Street"...

...before heading "home" to relax...

On the Twitter, a request was made for "an LP which changed your life"...

I couldn't choose between these...

Back in 1977, one gave me the courage to create soundscapes, the other to attempt to write songs...

On telly, we enjoyed the first episode of the Australian comedy, "Colin From Accounts"...

Poor wee Colin...

In the evening, fully rested, we returned to the Cumberland for tea...

Small drinks this time...

...and large, tasty fayre...

...followed by a walk home...

..for coffees...
.

...and desert...

...and relaxing...

To bed at midnight, having secured some new discoveries via the Bandcamp...
