Up at seven and keeping this up to date...

...and downloading very old music...

...followed by breakfast, once we'd worked out how everything worked...

Out into the sun...

A walk around the village...

...including Mellow Yellow...

...and Help the Aged, where these were partaken of for a quid each...

One last look and we were off...

Eschewing a reservoir in the middle of nowhere and Hexham (which we hope to visit tomorrow on the way home), we went up over the hills...

...and down the other side to Penrith...

Rarely have I been in a town with quite so many charity shops but, contrary to expectation, I did not enter any of them...

Instead, Saint Andrew's Church...

...with a nearby housing development...

Market Square, actually a triangle...

On, up to Penrith Castle...

...once the home of the then future Richard III...

On our way back to the town, we discovered the origins of the term "elbow room" - it's not about space, it's about a room...

Lunch from J & J Graham's delicatessen...

Goat's Cheese Tart...

Cumbrian Pastie...

Walking back towards the car park, we found Brunswick Yard and took a look around, although no purchases were made...

A short drive took us to our second ruined castle of the day...

...Brougham Castle on the River Eamont...

A further short drive found us at Brougham Hall, the Exec Producer reckoned their log resembled your correspondent...

A selection of arts and crafts outlets now occupy the former baronial hall...

Drinks and cakes were required, of course...

We spent some time watching the swifts service their nests above the window on this tower...

Once again on our way and back to Alston, where we visited the South Tynedale Railway...

It only runs at weekends and on bank holidays so was deserted...

Oh well - Anne took a short walk along the river - I did not accompany, my leg injury from last Wednesday's football took a turn for the worse at Penrith castle earlier...

Back home, scones from J & J Graham's were enjoyed...

Some relaxation before we ventured out again, this time to The Turk's Head...

We discovered that what we thought was Summer Girl was actually San Miguel...

The Grim Reaper drinks here...

Back outside, a horse was just captured on camera and no more as it made its way to the Turk's Head...

Having investigated two possible dinner venues, one closed one less than salubrious, we plumped with "Jack's Takeaway" next door to our apartment, for freshly prepped scampi, chips (again) and coleslaw - tasty!

Three more episodes of "Colin From Accounts" entertained. while Anne kept an eye on Hearts drawing at Rangers to no avail as Aberdeen beat 10 man St Mirren to secure the coveted third place...

Now, on Saturday for 4th place, in the last game of the season Hearts play Hibs, who managed to beat 10 man Celtic tonight...

Wrote this up ready for publishing tomorrow and downloaded what I could of today's purchases plus  new music from Belgian outfit, Dishwasher_ and more form The Rain Dogs...

Lights out...

Highlight of the Day : Brougham Hall...
