Walking around can be an acceptable way to spend a holiday...

Up for another day of walking around and looking and photographing...

In the shadow of the cathedral...

... it was time...

...for breakfast...

...for which Anne enjoyed poached eggs on toast while I very much enjoyed the porridge, adding raspberries from the fruit plate on offer...

Out, noting our initial target for the day...

...but, also, of course, the cathedral...

Into the castle grounds at 10...

...and we paid £20 for the two of us to walk around the walls and enjoy the views afforded to us...

It was at this point that we discovered the claim that the cathedral had been the tallest building in the world for almost 250 years...

However, it was "only" the highest man made structure in the world from 1311 until Strasbourg Cathedral was completed in 1439...

And, indeed, it was its now no longer in existence spires, on top of the towers which remain today, which made it so...

Still very impressive though...

Looking the other way...

We commenced our walk...

This...

...turned out to be a water tower, still in use today...

Smoke was seen coming from Lucy the Dragon...

A better view of the water tower...

This remains the main court house in Lincoln to this day...

The backs of these houses kind of looked like elephants...

The cathedral above the court...

...and from behind it...

...and from behind the Victorian jail...

...and with the Lucy Tower, where hanged prisoners were buried...

...and from where I spotted rather a nice house...

The view over the wall...

The graves...

The Exec Producer was enjoying the wall wander...

A better view of the prison...

...and of more houses overlooked by the walls...

Our final destination was the tower...

...and these the views from the very top...

...before our ascent...

A good hour spent on that then...

Further walking ensued, as we sought out the water tower at closer quarters...

The grass and leaves may be useful for a future cover...

Onwards and we found a windmill...

...and had a look round a nice wee shop...

Then, coffee and cake time - doubling for today's lunch...

Victoria Sponge for Anne...

...and a scone for me...

My strawberry was gifted to the EP...

I ran a poll on Twitter as to whether I ought to buy this 2LP set, seen in the wee shop pre the coffees...

Luckily, the EP's "no" vote was in the minority...

And so, we returned and I made the purchase...

Then, walking along behind the castle now...

...we arrived at "The Lawn", a former mental asylum...

...in the gardens of which, some small dogs were having fun...

More walking and a closer look was afforded me of the house I liked...

Back to the square between the castle and cathedral...

...and, at the top of the "Steep Hill"...

...some fudge was purchased, for us and for my mum...

...and I inspected today's acquisition...

Bought today for the same price on its cover from 1974...

However, £3.99 in 1974 is the equivalent of an almost unbelievable £54.33 in today’s money....

And £3.99 in today's terms is just 29p in 1974 prices…

We did some resting and reading - me, mostly, about the Moody Blues...

Then, out once more for more walking...

This time, a different route down to the main part of town...

Every gallery we'd wanted to visit had been closed while we were here - same thing happened in Cambridge - hence so much walking around...

Trains continued to trundle through the main street...

We walked through the University campus...

...and back round over the railway...

.
...to the waterside...

...where drinks were enjoyed...

...before the long walk up the hill and home, once again taking a different route, which allowed this delight to be discovered...

Yowsah!

Home for another rest, before heading out for tea at the nearby Duke William Hotel...

...for more drinks...

...and the final night out of the trip...

Unpictured shared sun dried tomato and oregano fritter starters were also enjoyed

Out into the dark...

...for the final constitutional...

Home tomorrow...
