Off to Germany today, for a wee tour, which will include, in a couple of days' time, a concert by German Superstar, Udo Lindenberg...

Trundling down the hill in the rain as how it all started...

Bags checked, checked in and through security all by 10:45...

We were due to fly just after noon and, on plan, our plane arrived and, we thought, was being prepared for us...

But it wasn't to be...

A hydraulics leak was threatening an on time departure...

An engineer was called...

We were updated but the situation gradually deteriorated until, shortly before the by then considerably delayed departure time, the flight was finally cancelled...

A mad dash down to the baggage collection area to collect our bags and then, another mad dash to the check in area again, to check onto the next flight, due to leave around 6pm - luckily we were near the front of the queue and made it onto the seating plan...

I'm pretty sure others from our aborted trip did not...

Once again, bags checked and through security and deja vu at 2:15...

Phone calls made to our hotel and car hire to advise of our later than expected arrival times...

Then, to relaxing with a coffee...

Once again our flight was delayed though...

We boarded at 6:45...

Then, further delays...

But we finally took off at 7:20 - around four hours after we ought to have been checking into our hotel and having a wee wander around the small town, on the Hessen/Bayern border, of Seligenstatdt...

Instead, this...

Luckily we'd had sustenance at the airport during our elongated wait as, due to there being not enough meals on the plane, no food was served...

Other than that, an uneventful flight...

...landing around 10pm, German time...

Car pick up went smoothly...

...followed by a fractious journey through the dark, on unknown roads, to our hotel seemed to take considerably longer than the expected 25 minutes...

However, the very kind staff had kept it open for us and we were treated to free beers in the bar...

...before retiring...

A long day indeed but glad, at last to be here...

Highlight of the Day : Our second flight taking off...
