50 years, 50 songs...

Playlist
Neil Young - Sleeps With Angels
Mott the Hoople - All the Young Dudes

A day spent listening to the three hastily learned Neil Young songs I was to perform tonight..

It turned out today was a day of performances...

We said goodbye to our chum Wheelers - the biggest Hibs fan I know...

Accordingly, I surprised him by learning two songs by, frankly, one of my least favourite acts of all time, The Proclaimers...

And so Mr W was able to serenade the gathered throng with rather wayward renditions of "500 Miles" and "Sunshine on Leith"...

Onlookers were suitably entertained...

A fractious bus journey thereafter, down to Newhaven to perform at the Neil Young tribute night organised by my old Out of the Bedroom chum Scott Renton...

50 years of Neil Young, 50 Neil Young songs, performed by 16 various solo artists and groups, to a standing room only crowd...

As you'll see from the pics, there was a certain amount of crossover between acts, personnel-wise...

I must admit to having been a little the worse for wear following the Wheelers shenanigans...

Nonetheless, having also arrived barely one minute before my performance time, I still managed my three swiftly learned songs and set up a nice call and response scenario on my third song, "Change Your Mind" which, thankfully, I cut down from the Neil Young version's 15 minutes, to around three...

I didn't stay for the whole night but did witness 20 of the fifty songs played, particularly enjoying Scott's band The Heartbreak Diet...

For posterity, here is the running order for the evening (songs I saw in bold)...

Scott commented "It was only 48, not 49, but let’s play the joker: the bastardisations of "When You Dance I Can Really Love", "Needle and the Damage Done" and "Cowgirl In The Sand" in song 1 take us up to 50."...

A long bus journey home through the pouring rain, soundtracked by the first LP I ever bought, and picked up by the Exec Producer for the final furlong...

A very enjoyable day...

Highlight of the Day : Performing...

Cheers Scott - would be honoured to grace the stage and, given enough notice, I'm sure the band could learn a few songs to give a reasonable account of ourselves...
