No alarm so up at 8:30...

Spent some time updating the various websites, noting however that both Divshare and 4shared, which I use for archiving and the provision of players on the sites, were down for some unknown reason...

Managed to update the Crispycat site itself but I note this evening, it’s now down (although Divshare is back)...

Meg the Black Cat enjoyed playing with the box the Alice Cooper box came in...

..resulting in her being decorated with polystyrene...

To the store for a croissant...

Breakfasting to “Something for the Weekend”

Then spent an hour or so integrating recently purchased CDs relegated from the living room shelf into the main collection upstairs – always a laborious task...

A good call with sister Pam – she is impressing her oncology specialist with her overall well-being – her chemo has been upped for the last time and will remain at this level for the last five sessions, the first of which started yesterday...

Out in the car to the Grassmarket and Avalanche – nothing tempted me though – of course I wasn’t helped by the fact I’d left my specs in the house...

Up towards Newington...

...and bought a new pair for a quid to help me out, then trawled round all the charity shops – again nothing of any interest was found...

Back to the car and tried to go to FOPP but thwarted by roadworks (probably for the best)...

Drove instead to the Gallery of Modern Art...

...for an exhibition of Jeff Koons followed by coffee and cake...

Back out into the sunshine...

This would be a good house to have...

Then, over the road to the August Sander exhibition...

Home via Sainsbury’s in the rain – bought “Iron Man 2” on DVD and three CDs – “Very Best of ELP”, Phil Collins’ “Going Back” and Nick Drake’s “A Treasury”...

Back home and watched “Iron Man” and “Iron Man 2” back to back - very entertaining, even though it’s not that long since I watched “Iron Man”...

Then listened to the new CDs while waiting for Anne to confirm a safe landing at Newcastle - her text came around 11 pm – landed safe and sound and the ladies will train it up the East Coast tomorrow...

Whilst surfing the net, I read this article re downloading for free...

While I have sympathy for Mr Cutler’s argument, it’s essentially the same one put forward in the 80’s under the banner “Home taping is Killing Music”...

My own view is, if you really want something you will pay for it – if you can get something for free you might well take it but that does not equate to a lost sale...

These days, the competition for people’s money is fiercer than ever before...

Take me for example – as a punter I buy shed loads of CDs but, if I’m honest, very few of them are albums I actually left the house wanting to buy (e.g. today’s purchases)...

I buy the majority of my CDs because I am curious about the music and they are sufficiently cheap e.g. all those £3 CDs from FOPP or discs from charity shops at around the same...

Even better for finding out what certain music sounds like are free downloads – indeed these will often lead me to paying full price for an album by an artist who really impresses...

I would say to Mr Cutler, if you really want to make enough money from your art not to have a day job or any other means of support for that matter, then make music that people are willing to pay for...

If you want to make music for yourself, which some people coincidentally also enjoy and wish to purchase, then you’d better get a job to support your music...

Anyway, now I’m off downstairs to watch tonight’s Tivo’d “The Day the Earth Stood Still”, its Tivo'dness will allow me not to have to watch the adverts...

Highlight of the Day : Wandering about/”Iron Man” double bill/Annie on her way home...
