Along the Roman Road...

Playlist
Various Artists - Holiday Playlists

A drive along the banks of the Mosel today...

We found some old stuff...

...including this Roman Garden...

The Ausoniusgarten...

This Roman poet provided the only then contemporary description of the Mosel river and valley...

We were on the Ausoniusstrasse - the Roman road the twists and turns along the banks of the river...

We found the Villa Rustica in Mehring.

One of the largest of the Roman manor houses along the wine route, Villa Rustica, built in the 2nd century AD, can be found nestled in the middle of a modern German residential neighborhood...

Discovered in the 19th century and excavated in the 1980s, the villa has been partially reconstructed...

After a wander around and some exploration we found a place for Kaffee und Kuchen...

...before returning to the ruins for further exploration...

The, back into the car and further driving along the "Roman Road", stopping along the way to record a particularly fine view, spread over these five pics...

Then, back to Bernkastel Kues and down to the river...

Back at Traben Trarbach we noted some properties we might buy...

...and enjoyed more Kaffee und Kuchen...

...and the swans...

We returned to Traben Trarbach for a very tasty dinner...

Yumtastic!

...followed by a constitutional...

...and then home for some classical music on the telly...

A good day...

Highlight of the Day : Despite all the other great stuff, has to be the Schnitzel und pommes...
