Hallelujah...

Up today at 7:30 to surf the net as usual....

How much of my time do I waste doing this? But is it really time wasted? Well, probably mostly yes, it is....

Anyway, using the link to the right entitled “Art on the Net” I spent some time viewing several works at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. This is the wonder of the internet. Hey, if I’d wanted, I could’ve visited the MoMA in San Francisco too...

From MoMA in NY, here are some paintings by Ad Reinhardt (as immortalised on my ambient/soundscape CD from 1999 “Reinhardt Richter Rosenquist”)...

This is my kind of art - dig those titles, man...

Number 107 (1950)

Abstract Painting Blue (1952)

Abstract Painting Red (1952)

Abstract Painting (1957)

Abstract Painting (1960-61)

I finished off my new “Albums of the Month” playlist, which includes all 120 CDs listed on my “My Monthly Top Ten Albums” blog (see links) – a total of just under 1,900 tracks, ripe for some shuffle play...

Then we were off to a lunchtime performance of Handel’s “Messiah” at the Usher Hall....

We parked at Castle Terrace Car Park – then I had to walk up around 50 steps to get back to street level and then, aftre what would normally be a short, brisk walk to the Usher Hall, I had to climb a further hundred or so steps to the Upper Balcony – we bought the tickets before I broke my ankle you see....

Once there, I found I couldn’t fit my leg into the space allowed and the seat would not go down without catching on my plaster. So I had to wait till everyone else was seated and then find an empty seat by the aisle where I could sit with my leg sticking out – leaving me some considerable distance away from Anne....

The concert itself was excellent – the Orchestra was especially good. However, as with most events of whatever nature I’ve attended over the last 10 years or so, I fell asleep at a couple of points – luckily I didn’t snore...

I met up with Anne at the interval and a couple of ginger beers seemed to do the trick and keep me a wake for the second half....

I must make special mention of the young boy seated just in front of my empty seat. He played magnificent imaginary harpsichord for much of the "gig", putting me in mind of the many earnest young men in my row at the Genesis concert at Edinburgh Playhouse back in 1977, who played a variety of imaginary instruments, including full drum kit and mellotron...

Then, as we exited to the street after the performance we bumped in Dr Philip Prog - who, I imagine, like me, is fairly proficient at a number of imaginary instruments...

I was surprised to see him as he'd called only this morning to say he was poorly and wouldn’t be attending - but he'd taken a turn for the better and decided to come along after all. To put a further shine on his day, he'd been admitted free of charge to considerably better seats than ours...

Dr Prog? Dr Jammy more like....

We went with Phil to Jimmy Chung’s for an all you can eat Chinese late lunch/dinner. The conversation somehow came round to Kubrick’s “2001” and I was reminded I wanted to listen to the soundtrack – but promptly forgot again...

Back home to find the not so mighty QoS have been beaten yet again and are now firmly stuck in the relegation zone – still, it’ll mean it’s cheaper to watch them next season and I might go to a few more games to watch them "live"...

In the evening, we watched a show called “Balderdash & Piffle” about the origin of various words and phrases. It wasn’t as good as it might easily have been and I won’t be watching again...

Highlight of the Day : Handel’s “Messiah”

Hallelujah!!
