A reasonably busy yet reasonably unbusy day...
Started with the first of three plays from the CD boxes...
Box 40 Mozart to Nordentoft...
I chose the first of two discs of Muffat's Concerti Grossi...
Both were bought on our visit to Bratislava back in May 2010 in a CD shop/Musical Instrument Museum called “Hummel”...
The recordings were made in Bratislava in 1993/94...
Muffat, whose dad was a Scot, wrote and performed around Bratislava in the 1600s...
It was 6:30 in the morning...
...while I did the things I "need" to do...
Which today included adding a "Latest News" section to the landing page of this website...
Another week - No 8...
Compiled Week 7's Top 20 LPs...
Seven new entries...
31 LPs have now been and gone...
At 10, Stu Cobley arrived and coffee, biscuits and top chat ensued - mainly about dealing with parental dementia, it must be said, but also a wee bit about the group he left 2.5 years ago now - since which time he's apparently not played his guitar...
Fang popped by for some Dreamies...
Then, the reason for Stu's visit - testing out his amp...
Which required the photographing of its rear and that of mine, re what to plug in where...
..and tested...
It works just fine and we reckoned it must be his speaker wire...
Some chat about MusicBee v Apple Music as an organiser of our music libraries and then, off he went home to experiment further...
Meanwhile, Anne was prepping the latest batch of lovely soup...
...and I researched lunch this Friday with Macclesfield Craig in that Glasgow...
We will enjoy some drinks, an Italian and, possibly some more drinks, before he gets to his lodgings for the night - he's travelling up from Manchester between 2am and 6am on Friday morning for a performance by Wrest that evening...
Lunch with some "Younger"...
Another CD box of the day...
No 41 Nyman to Pachelbel...
I chose Nyman's soundtrack to Peter Greenaway's "Prospero's Books"...
It sent me down a Greenaway rabbit hole - we first discovered his films around the same time as we discovered Nyman, back in 1982, when we saw the latter with his band playing the Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh and some Greenaway shorts at the Edinburgh Filmhouse...
Very enjoyable disc...
...then, Anne headed for Pilates and I watched the last two episodes of Season 1 of "Fallout", just finishing on her return...
Some winter Olympics while we waited on the Baked Potatoes to cook...
Three bean salad for me, Tuna and Cheese for Annie...
Then, for the first time in a while a couple of "Bones"...
After which I went back upstairs for the 3rd CD Box of the day...
Box 42 Paganini - Pasterwiz...
I chose this disc on Naxos of Part's various Fratres, written over a long period in the 1980s and 90s, continually reinterpreting the work for different chamber set ups...
...as noted on the back of the box...
The added bonus of the "Cantus in memory of Benjamin Britten for strings and bell" was a beautiful added bonus...
Then, influenced by posts on BlueSky, an LP which was important to me at age 11...
I reconstituted it digitally a long time ago from a vinyl rip but then eventually managed to find Malko's "1812" from 1953 on this Japanese CD...
He conducted the first ever performances of Shostakovich's first two symphonies, in Leningrad back in 1926 & 1927...
Another exchange on BlueSky led me to dig this out...
..and find that this as the single form the 1971 LP...
Anne appeared, looking to watch something and so, two episodes of "Chicago PD" took us to beyond midnight and into Tuesday...
A reasonably busy yet reasonably unbusy day...
Highlight of the Day: Visit from Stu...
