I'm sure Anne and Meg must have done something today but, between these two pictures...
...exactly ten hours elapsed...
To be fair, the post had been delivered and a big pile of jiffy bags had been constructed on one of the settees to await the arrival of your correspondent...
And Anne too had been out helping to bring home the bacon - it was probably Meg who piled up the envelopes, using nothing but her wee teeth and front paws - and possibly a system of levers and pullies, which she ensured were all tidied away before the big pink tin-openers returned to her house...
A veritable torrent of stuff ordered recently and much anticipated...
It included probably the best Herman Van Veen record I've heard, a gentle, downbeat disc from 1979 - I found it hard to believe that, of the tracks included, I have no studio versions on any of the many compilations in my extensive collection of this unknown in the UK Dutchman's output...
Also on the mat were two collections of Ligeti's music, one a 2CD set of his complete piano and harpsichord music (strangely conventional in the early works) and the other, a Naxos disc of his string quartets...
Finally, two editions in the series of contemporary German classical music I'm trying to collect, a single and a double disc, containing surely some of the weirdest sounding stuff there is...
Tasty...
At eight, after Anne's superb home-made chili, we settled down to watch England v Scotland in a friendly at Wembley - the first time the two countries had met since Scotland beat England 1-0 at the "old" Wembley in 1999...
Of course a lot of water has gone under the bridge since then and Scotland have not qualified for the final stages of the European Nations or World Cups since France in 1998...
Even though it was a friendly, it was played very much as a competitive match...
Scotland (ranked around 50th) went ahead twice but eventually succumbed 3-2 to England (ranked 14th) in a tight game - in the end Scotland's defending at set pieces letting them down...
A good game though...
A wee holiday to celebrate an upcoming anniversary has been planned - a beautiful little one street, one castle, town in the North of England called Warkworth...
A stay there will afford a chance to revisit nearby Alnwick and Barter Books, to see if I can perhaps reduce the whopping line of credit I have with them after my last visit...
Elsewhere tonight, mostly ripping of and listening to new acquisitions...
Twenty of the twenty four thus far in August have been classical sets...
There's not much new "rock & pop" or jazz right now that's attracting my attention...
Highlight of the Day : Scotland going 2-1 up...
