For the first time in a week, a walk to Fopp - past the new Doig exhibition - saw a headline today advising his paintings go for the highest prices of any living artist in the world...

I think in fact it's Gerhard Richter to which this distinction belongs...

In the early evening, a meet up with the Exec Producer for more Fringing...

Through the crowded Grassmarket...

..and up Victoria Street and on to the Royal Mile past St Giles...

...to the Fringe Box Office to pick up our tickets for tonight's show...

Down into Cockburn St for an early dinner at the Gurkha Cafe...

Back up to The Tron...

...and up the South Bridge, dropping in at Blackwell's Books on the way...

Opposite the Festival Theatre...

...we ventured into Surgeons' Hall for the first time ever...

I have known this place since at least 1972 but, until tonight had never been inside...

We liked it and will return to visit their museum of things in jars, once the festival is over...

Towards George Square and into the BBC's venue...

...where we discovered Dr Who had a new companion...

Back out into the fray...

Past the Channel 4 Udderbelly...

..and the Gilded Balloon, where I once studied...

..and on into George Square Gardens...

In the Spiegeltent we saw Rich Hall...

A great show, very funny and so talented - amazing how it just seems he's making it up as he goes along...

A couple in the front row were picked upon, Mr Hall noting they'd been together for 7 years but were not married...

At the end of the night, after he'd improvised a couple of songs about them, putting them on the spot, the young postman and pharmaceutical dispenser were engaged...

Such is the power of comedy...

A walk down to Princes St, Airport Bus and a walk up Crispycat Hill saw us home shortly before midnight...

Highlight of the day : Rich Hall...
