April over...

Up at 5:45...

Checked out...

To the airport parking place and then, by minibus, back to the airport...

Breakfast of porridge with maple syrup...

On to the flight - we waited till the very end before joining the queue rather than stand for ages - after all, it wasn't going to go without us...

Good uneventful flight...

Arrived at Schönefeld...

...and purchased day tickets for the Berlin Transport system - S Bahn, U Bahn, Trams and Buses - all on the same ticket - all integrated...

Around £5.50 each per day...

Brilliant...

Took the S9...

...to Schönhauser Allee and enjoyed our first of many wursts in a stand up Imbiss-based lunch scenario, before walking the half kilometer or so to our apartment on Gleimstrasse...

Enjoyed a coffee and the free wi-fi at Cafe Fog, below our flat, as we waited on the keys arriving...

85 steps to the fourth floor but well worth the effort re a superb apartment with balcony...

After quickly unpacking, we were back out onto the street and along to the U Bahn station to take the train into Mitte, where we emerged onto the Gendarmenmarkt with the Deutsche Dom, Französische Dom and Konzerthaus...

At the cafe by the French Cathedral we enjoyed a Berlin Weisse - a very young beer to which red raspberry (or green herb) juice is added to make it palatable...

Nice...

From there we strolled along Unter den Linden...

...to the Brandenburg Gate which, until 1989, sat in the death strip of no man's land...

On to the Reichstag building...

Then the train to Alexanderplatz via the Hauptbahnhof...

...and back to Gleimstrasse...

...for a quick shifty of the weatherforecast on TV and a bit of a rest...

Back out to a nearby park where some kind of mass party was taking place...

We walked through the revellers and down towards Kastanian Allee...

...where we enjoyed a drink at Nemo...

...and a bite to eat at Felafel UFO before heading home via the late shop for some crisps and beer...

It seems de riguer to drink from bottles on the street...

Highlight of the Day : Berlin...
