Drowning out inanity...

There’s something quite lovely about walking in the dark of a morning with light snow falling and the piano music of Mr Janacek in your ears...

Of course, once I’m down at the main road, it’s not loud enough to drown out the sound of the traffic or, on the bus, the sound of inane conversation, often just half heard due to the other person being elsewhere, i.e. also on a mobile...

Tonight, we visited my mum...

It would have been my dad’s 80th birthday today had he survived until now, instead of giving up the ghost in 2003...

I wore an outfit reminiscent of what my dad used to consider dandy attire – ill fitting trousers and a woolly jumper – I didn’t have the silly shoes on though that he would often wear...

We decided if he was still around, he’d be just the same as he was, except slightly older...

And the day is also memorable in that, eight years ago, poor wee Crispy the Kitten had to be put to sleep on 14 January...

A very bad day...

Mum, who will turn 80 in August, was in good form and good spirits, despite having been virtually housebound since New Year due to the snow...

She had a couple of jobs for me – replacing a battery in her kitchen clock and opening a jar of jam...

I got off lightly – the other night sister Sheila was here out in the cold clearing all the snow away from mum’s car and digging away 4 inches of ice from the path....

We made our way home around 10, to try and avoid any too icy roads and, once back in the warmth of Crispycat Towers, enjoyed tonight’s “Big Bang Theory” followed by “This Week”...

Happy birthday...

Highlight of the Day : Janacek in the snow...
