Woke around 5:30 new time (so 4:30 UK time) and listened to the new jazz discs on the jukebox as I waited for Anne to waken up...

Good to be up bright and early and here was the view from the window of our room. Hot and sunny...

Breakfast at 8:30 comprised German Brotchen (rolls) with a selection of meats and cheeses, along with fresh orange juice and lashings of coffee. I also had some fruit joghurt with muesli...

Very tasty indeed...

We set off for the main town of Arnsberg around 9:30, visiting the ancient monastery, then walking up through the old town to the bell tower...

...and on beyond to the castle ruins, from where we had a superb view of the town...

Back to the car and we drove on to nearby Neheim...

...where lunch comprised more joghurt and fruit for me and a great big dish of strawberries, cream and ice cream for Anne...

Then on to Hedringen and its famous palace, which was unfortunately closed to visitors - but we managed to sneak a peak through the surrounding woodland...

...before driving on to the Sorpesee - which we eventually found after first driving in a huge circle and going through a couple of places we'd already been...

This lake was formed by damming a river and the dam was one of those targetted in World War II by the Dambusters and their bouncing bombs...

By now the weather was absolutely roasting and we partook of the refreshment opportunities before driving on down round the southern tip of the lake and back up home to Rumbeck...

At the hotel we enjoyed a few beers whilst Anne read and I wrote this up...

Before dinner, at the suggestion of the owner of the hotel, we took a walk into the nearby woods and followed the beautiful 2km "Poetry Trail" accompanied by the sounds of birdsong...

After an hour or so, it was back to the Hotel for a superb dinner - just the one course each, accompanied by more beer for me and some German dry white wine for Anne...

The salad was absolutely out of this world while my steak and Anne's Swiss Schnitzel couldn't be faulted either - no need to seek anywhere else to eat really...

The picture doesn't do the kitchen justice...

There were a few parties in and much singing and carousing going on...

After dinner, another walk, this time in the fading light, down to the nearby church and its surroundings, then back home to bed...

A good day...

Lights out...

Highlight of the day : A lovely evening meal
