Various - 7" Singles (see below)

Up early as always at the weekend...

Recording the podcast and getting it out by 8:15...

Then, a nice listen...

Followed by some Wizzard - 46 years ago today they performed at my first ever concert experience...

...while I sorted out all my lyric sheets in preparation for tomorrow's band session...

Then, got my 7" singles out the loft...

..and played a few - garnering some new "followers" on the Twitter as I went along...

Deodato. The classic single edit...

DAF on Mute, before signing to Virgin...

Donovan's  “Hurdy Gurdy Man”, a 52 year old 7”...

The Doors - Engraved with my mark re taking it to parties in the 70’s...

Dylan. - bought this (and Fripp & Eno’s “Evening Star” LP) on Sat 7 Feb 1976. The A Side is an edit, with “shit” beeped out. B side is the full version and plays at 33 1/3...

Dave Edmunds. A classic piece of facsimilation on which Dave played all the instruments himself, as per the short film shown on "Nationwide" at the time...

Eno - Bought this Sat 19 July 1975. Always a fave. The label had an air bubble on it. Eventually I picked it off. Not bothered as I’d never sell it...

Quite possibly the last “true prog” track Genesis recorded. Relegated to the b side of this EP though... Steve Hackett’s last work with the group...

Gentle Giant, the b side of “I’m Turning Around” is an edit of “Free Hand” from “Playing the Fool”, including dubbed on cheering, possibly from “The Power and the Glory”...

FrancoiseHardy an EP from 1962. No doubt I paid too much for it...

RoyHarper “One of Those Days in England”. The B side is the subsequently subject of litigation “Watford Gap”...

Hawkwind "Silver Machine" - Another classic from 1972. Rare for the time to be issued in a pic sleeve. Of course I had to write the timing on the label...

Steve Hillage - this 7” was given away on the “Motivation Radio” tour. The b side is by Glenn Phillips, the support act...

Some more selected for later on...

But, now, to the dump with the old turntable...

Goodbye old friend...

...before a drive out to my mums for coffee and lovely scones from sister Sheila, at mum's to early celebrate her birthday on Monday...

Back home around three hours later and some more old record playing...

A beat up copy of Jacky's classic "White Horses" - theme to the UK version of the German/Yugoslavian 60's kids TV series "The White Horses". Dubbed onto all UK episodes and became a top 10 hit...

The story is here...

Bought in Berchtesgaden, Bavaria on 8 July 1974, same day as Fripp & Eno's "No Pussyfooting", Lou's "Sweet Jane" 7" and Hawkwind's "Paradox" 7". Two edits from the Tull's "prog masterpiece", on a single.  Unsurprisingly, not a chart botherer...

Absolute classic from 1972. Always a fave...

Rather an arty shot of Joy Division's "Transmission"...

A solo single from Roxy Music's second bassist, Rik Kenton - he lasted just six months, the second half of 1972...  They did have rather a lot of bassists over the years...

My 2nd Crimso record, bought 28/2/76. I'd had "Lizard" since December '74. This promoted "Young Person's Guide". Full versions despite time on the a side indicating Epitaph would be an edit. Made quite an impression & so different from "Lizard" of course...

Is this evidence of the possible existence of a single edit of "Epitaph"?

I have a few King Crimson singles. This is probably the rarest. Two copies. Neither is anywhere near "mint"...

Ooooh, I didn't post this to Twitter - I bet it would be popular - a 10 minute Robert Fripp soundscape on a single B side...

Bought in Huckelhoven, near Aachen, Germany on 1 July 1976. A veritable Kiss Klassic...

The original 1974 7" edit of Kraftwerk's "Autobahn" - such a strange sounding record at the time...

The absolute 1st record I remember - Joe Loss's "Wheels Cha Cha"/"Latino Cha Cha". My dad's original got broken at the New Year party at our house in 1973/4 by me and my wee sister (Golden Earring's "Radar Love" as the hit of the night)...

Years later, I found it again...

A rocker by Marmalade from 1972. Searched for a long time to find a copy and got this rather badly damaged one.  Rather questionable lyrics in hindsight but still a fave... There's a good review of the record here...

Not rare at all, as it sold in the millions. But nice to play side two - which starts at the "Helter Skelter in the summer swelter" verse...

Again, same song on both sides. "Roadrunner Twice" was the hit. The much more subdued "Roadrunner Once" is on the A side though...  Hated by the Exec Producer...  Loved by me...

Perhaps rivaling "Penny Lane" as the best two sides of a single ever - from a year earlier than the Beatles' classic, "I'm a Believer" and this...

The 1972 re-issue of The Moody Blues biggest hit...  A favourite from my formative 7" listening times...

Mott the Hoople had a run of absolute belter 7"s from "All the Young Dudes" in the summer of 1972 to this towards the end of 1974, the only thing they did with Mick Ronson. It's my favourite...

A classic No 1 from early '74 and one just a couple of 7" which remain from the Exec Producer's former collection...

That was it for tonight - more to spin tomorrow...

Then, I noticed something strange in the back room and ha to move all these to investigate...

The people who reapplied the bathroom sink to the wall have screwed in too far and come through the other side of the wall!

Jeez oh...

Anyway, then Sid Smith asked what;s your fave Roger Dean cover...

I said "Close to the Edge" by yes for (a) its understatement and (b) the introduction of the timeless logo...

But this is perhaps better as it has more art in it...

That, apart form some telly, was it...

Up early...

First listen of the day - sounds good...

At lunchtime, down to Stockbridge and this 6LP set partaken of from Shelter for £4...

...along with this, my first CD purchase of the month for just 2 of your English pounds...

Despite looking pristine, the LPs have quite a lot of surface noise, crackles and pops - how on earth did people enjoy listening to classical music at home before the advent of CD?

Meanwhile, Sid Smith was encouraging people to, ahem, show their cabling...

As regards Haydn, give me the CDs anytime...

Out to the footie - 4 a side was hard and my team lost by around 5 - probably something like 14-9...

No goals from your correspondent...

Very knackering but very, very enjoyable...

I'd taken Anne to her mum's pre this for them to head to Tynecastle for Hearts game against Kilmarnock...

They lost 3-2 and all the enthusiasm and upbeatness post the defeat of Scotland's Newest Club has evaporated...

Back home, for me post the football participation, a tasty salad and part III of "Dracula" which was OK...

A lift home for Anne late doors and that was it..
