Back to the six o'clock starts...
More rehearsing pre breakfast...
Out to Loanhead for 8:30 to meet with Sheila...
To an auction house in Rosewell re mum's stuff...
Her beloved crystal punchbowl is worth around £30...
Ooofftt...
And the rest of the stuff, not of much value either really...
These were the only three things left for auction...
...although they did say they could sell everything we showed them, juust that it wouldn't raise too much...
And their commission is 25%...
Ulp...
But, you know, we need to do away with lots of stuff which is of no sentimental or monetary value for us...
This, this is what happens...
I recorded the conversation and need to do a transcript to remind us of what's what...
On the way home, popped to the Gyle and got the latest "The Wire" with "The Wire Tapper 66" attached...
Dug all 66 out and split them into years and noted issue dates on the iTunes versions on the hard drives...
Played quite a bit (but none of Vol 66 - the vagaries of "shuffle") and almost everything, from April 1998 to November 2024, still somehow sounds contemporary....
So, is/was this kind of music ahead of its time or is the avant-garde not quite so avant and is it, in fact, standing still?
I'm wondering if what we perhaps deemed to be ahead of its time is actually behind its time because it sounds of this time...
I'm thinking, if stuff over 25 years old sounds "innovative" re music now, is it somehow standing still?
I still like it but is real innovation in music now elsewhere and not the "so-called" avant-garde?
This only occurred to me this morning when I started shuffling 26 years of The Wire Tapper...
The bottom line is, what's the point?
Hmmm...
Anyway...
Other than that, "The Lincoln Lawyer" restarted at lunchtime - we were soon back into it...
The rest of the day was spent listening and compiling re these...
...and 190 on "University Challenge" - best for a long time...
Then, more work, which finished around midnight, as I headed to bed with it in the cans...
Highlight of the Day : Working on the music... Certainly not being told most of my mum's precious stuff was pretty worthless...
