Thursday..
A request from Leith Dockers for a poster re our gig on 27 July...
Could they have "a document I can edit if you want to leave the date blank and that way I can print and edit when we need it for other dates?" - which bodes well for possible future bookings...
Duly created and provided...
While drawing up the list of artists for the poster I recalled the intention to learn a requested Rod Stewart song - and so, I did...
...and sent songsheet and quick recording to the boys in the band...
Then, out to my mum's...
Doing not too badly given her circumstances...
Home to bees in the garden...
Then, above the workstation, re-hung three of my paintings, their having made room for the new "compilations rack" in the back room...
...and freed up more boxes for CDs by moving my illegal burns to these shelves...
...downloaded a load of contempoary classical music by past winners of the Erste Bank composition prize, inspired by my tasty red box set of works by the winners between 2002 and 2007...
...and rehearsed my three songs for tonight's trip to Out of the Bedroom, where, in addition to the below, Jim Igoe played the last slot, giving us 10 acts...
First up, host Jim Bryce - including an ironic song on his love for Scotchland...
More wordy left wing, anti capitalist poetry, with the occasional guitar strum, from Geoff Winde...
Three songs, including a tribute to David Bowie ("when he died everything went to shit" - probably true to be fair) from "Andrew Ferguson as SIASA" (Songs in a Scottish accent)...
...and then your correspondent with "Here Again" from "Sparklemusik", "Here They Come With the New Machines" from "Splinterheart" and "The Songs He Wants to Sing" from "Fallingsky"...
No botch ups apart from having to restart "New Machines"...
Hmmm...
Pixie Moonshine followed the first break...
I do like her Canadian stuff...
Then, some bluesy acapella pieces from Janice McCusker - shades of Beyonce and I could imagine this with some hip hop beats accompanying...
On the piano, three accomplished songs, including one about Shane McGowan, from "Jon Horne's Gift Shop"...
Performing with backing tracks, sadly, only one of which seemed to work, which was a shame, came Andy Garrett of "Clarrett Be Like Pluto"...
Lastly, for me, the two best of the night, Ashhy, just 20, sang three songs acapella as she doesn't play guitar or keys, including one written when she was 14, about a man she was "in love with" who turned out to be a gay policeman...
...and Jim Igoe with my favourite song of his "The Light Comes Shining Through" - beautiful stuff to end the evening..
Into the car and the drive home soundtracked by my performance, bootlegged on the iPhone...
Not too shabby and will work on it tomorrow...
Highlight of the Day : Performing...
