Up comparatively late...

...and keeping this up to date re yesterday's adventures, while enjoying new music - playing tracks again from my LPs of the Day so far for 2023...

Around 8:30, breakfast, with clocks...

...and porridge...

Stumbled across some Blue Note Drum Intros on the hard drive, from which I created loops...

I then decided to play them all simultaneously to create a hell of a racket over parts of the half speed reversed version of my Disquietmusik piece "F-111 (1965)...

...which was nice...

During and post lunch, two episodes of a thing recorded over 4 years ago (Rob Lowe, recently enjoyed in "Unstable", in "Wild Bill")...

At three, we were off out to (a) look at lights, (b) have our tea and (c) go to see Simon Evans on the Fringe...

As we walked down the hill for the bus, I received an e-mail from Bandcamp that the Edward Spark/Kiffie EP I did a long remix for recently, was one of their choices for "Best Electronic Music on Bandcamp, July 2023"...

Sadly, while mentioned and, indeed, it seems, very much enjoyed and recommended, they omitted a link to my own (or Socool's) Bandcamp page...

Oh well, so it goes...

"More ‘80s vibes, this time from Edinburgh, with agonizingly melancholic electropop given a futurist twist via gloriously gleaming production.

Kiffie’s gentle vocal refrains make it reminiscent of the emotive power of Erasure and Soft Cell, but Edward Spark’s production isn’t a throwback. It’s always about the song first, creating pristine spaces for Kiffie’s expression to shine out of.

Even more devastating is the 15+ minute remix from CBQ and Socool which spends 10 minutes building an ambient landscape before letting the song rise up out of it, its yearning amplified tenfold by the scene-setting."

High praise indeed...

Let's see what effect, if any, this has on visits, listens, sales etc...

(I can advise a few weeks later, erm, none)...

Sparky reported his plays have gone through the roof...

Anyway, a bus to Newington, a short walk to Causewaysde...

...and into Cotterell Lighting, in this old church...

Many lovely things were perused...

However, after taking advice from the very nice man, we came a way with an unexpected solution to our kitchen lighting problem - three new stronger and wider projecting bulbs...

Then, over the road for drinks...

..at the Brass Monkey, which Anne recommended having previously lunched here with Lynn...

...and it was, indeed, tasty...

...and further drinks were enjoyed...

...before the long walk down to George Street, through the festival crowds...

With 15 minutes to spare, we were queuing outside the venue...

..and in, for an hour of fun...

"In Greek mythology, the Muses were the daughters of Mnemosyne, goddess of memory, by her nephew, Zeus. (Awks.) Ironically, there is no easy way to remember their names. Memory was thus regarded by the ancient Greeks as the mother of the arts, wellspring of inspiration. Our last defence against tyranny, the consolation of the just and the seat of the soul. Without memory, the illusion of self crumbles. Mine however, is shot. So where does that leave me?"

Not as quite as tight as previous shows we've seen from him but he is now, after all, joking about losing his mind...

Top stuff nonetheless...

Down to Princes St for a packed bus home...

The Festival has its downsides...

Alighted at the terminus...

...and a walk down to put in the new lights - a success...

...and to enjoy another episode of "Wild Bill"...

Lights out...

Highlight of the Day : Simon Evans...
