Friday...

Some things to do pre a road trip to that Newcastle...

...including checking whether anything released today might outdo what I chose yesterday as today's LP of the Day for the podcast...

Slim pickings and, so, probably not...

At 10:15 we set off, soundtracked by the Disco Megamixes I created for Vassia's wedding...

Their entire length took us to within a couple of miles of our accommodation in Gateshead...

We were a a little early and so walked to the nearby Ardallan Kitchen...

There was lovely coffee...

...fiery home made Ginger Beer...

...and, quite frankly, the best Croque Monsieurs we've ever encountered...

The weather was not the best though...

We checked in and dropped off our stuff...

Out and a walk to the nearby Metro...

...where some kind person had left their still valid day saver ticket on the ticket machine, meaning it cost us just £4.10 for the two of us to travel to the town centre, from Felling (and, later, back)...

Four stops to Monument...

...and a wander about ensued...

JG Windows in the arcade...

RPM records...

...neither of which elicited any sales...

But, while writing this up next Wednesday, I've just been reminded I saw an interesting John Williams/John Etheridge CD in the first shop...

Downloading now - this is why the music business is doomed!

Anyway, post no purchases, it was off to spend money in the Crown Posada - I believe we last visited this wee bar on our "North of England Tour" back in August 2009...

They still play scratchy old records on a dansette...

A short walk down to the river...

...where some ziplining was taking place...

It was time for tea and, after searching for somewhere appropriate, we ended up at the, most likely, inappropriate, Wetherspoons on the walk to tonight's venue...

Despite the lack of healthiness in our sustenance, we agreed it was probably better value than the Michelin star restaurant on the other side of the road...

A 15 minute walk took us to The Globe...

...which is kind of in the middle of nowhere...

The view from the office this evening...

First up, with 40 minutes of ambience created from four small boxes and a lot of wires and, perhaps, an iPad, John Tuffen, aka Namke Communications, my favourite of the evening...

Then, stepping in at the last moment due to an illness related cancellation, came the guitar/vox, drums duo of Peony...

Very noisy and shouty juxtaposition next to the preceding top notch ambience...

25 minutes of expert guitaring and drumming...

And last on was Pettaluck, making a 300 mile round trip from Southend to appear...

A few technical problems hampered the performance but I was impressed by some of the rhythm beds and by the sax playing...

There was also looped flute, a balloon and some singing and what looked like an inflatable piano...

Hmmm...

Out and a 10 minute or so walk back to Central Station where water was bought and from where we took the Metro back to Felling...

To bed with my own proposed musical nonsense in the cans...

Highlight of the Day : A night of strange music...
