Up early and final prep for a trip...

...to Manchester to see Dar Williams performing this evening...

Our journey was soundtracked by singles which charted between May 1959 and October 2016 - it was on shuffleplay and the competition (kind of) was to guess which decade the next track would come from...

Around half way there, a stop at the award winning Tebay services in Cumbria...

Yum...

And on to Manchester...

Checking in just after two...

The view from the office this afternoon...

Out and about...

Christmas is coming...

We split up to shop - in the distance here, on this side street, Fopp...

 No purchases...

I made my way to the Northern Quarter...

To the Record Exchange...

...where this was £1...

...and these were 50p each...

Jherek Bischoff, as seen, I found out later on Youtube, at the David Bowie Prom arranging for and accompanying Anna Calvi...

Dominc Waxing Lyrical - who lived in a flat next door to the first Reptile Records shop in Edinburgh and would often pop in...

Tilman Robinson - connected with Iceland's The Bedroom Community...

Previously unknown to me but looked interesting (for 50p!) Camila Fuchs - the promo contains the album and a bonus EP on one disc...

Talvihorros on Denovali - I saw him in London a couple of years back as part of Denovali's Swingfest...

Glasgow based doom-merchants Fvnerals (with a "v")...

Guitar and drums boy/girl duo Leisure Tank...

...and alt-folk New Yorker, Seth Faergolzia with nine of 100 songs written in 100 days back in 2014...

All of these should feature in this week's podcast...

Over the road (Oldham Street) to Piccadilly Records - no purchases...

...and a look round the Arndale Centre, including this not seen before market...

A call from the EP - she was outside the Record Exchange - met up and into Night and Day for a drink...

Then, to an Indian we ate at a few years ago, Swadesh

Best poppadoms and onions/sauces in the world (probably)...

...and a couple of supertasty (and pretty bloomin' hot) Karahi's...

...of which we made short work...

A quick nip through the dark back to the hotel to prepare for the gig...

...then, a short walk back to the Northern Quarter...

Tickets handed in and wristbands acquired...

A nice venue...

Support came from This Frontier Needs Heroes...

...before Ms Williams presented a fine set of songs, mostly from her first two LPs, the ones which hooked me in 20 years ago...

For those in the know, here's the setlist...

Spring Street
Emerald
Slippery Slope
I Am the One Who Will Remember Everything
This was Pompeii
The Christians and the Pagans
The Babysitter's Here
What Do You Hear in These Sounds
Mortal City
Iowa
When I was a Boy

..and my all time favourite of hers as the encore...

February

All too soon it was all over - spotted this on the way out - pretty sure not signed by the Captain himself though...

On our way home, we passed a Cat Cafe...

Not sure if these are actually good for the cats of course...

Home and some listening to today's purchases via the Tube of You...

Lights out...

Highlight of the Day : Dar Williams...
