Spike's Spunky Sporrans smash it, kind of...

Playlist
Various - Cloudland Blue Eclectic Selection 2016 Vol 47

Another frosty morning...

...and the moon was still high...

A walk down the hill...

Over to the other side of town for a visit to the dentist - and recent discomfort was found to have been down to a filling being required on a buccal (as opposed to "buckle") - which I discovered today means the "outside" of the tooth...

Oh well...

Further appointment made...

Followed by a further walk in the cold...

Another of the three cathedrals in Edinburgh - this at the top of Leith Walk...

The bus station provided brief respite from the freezing temperatures...

Christmas is coming...

...and winter is on its way (or actually here already)...

In the evening, a Pop Quiz with Anne and chums Gazz, Jack and Christie...

We were standing in for chum Spike and his team, The Fairmilehead Five, who take part each year - it was in aid of the Chest, Heart and Stroke Society...

We were, accordingly, "Spike's Spunky Sporrans" and utterly smashed it, leading throughout the night...

We played our Joker on the first round "Prince or Bowie" (lyrics from a song - which dead star sang them and what song were they from?)...

Name the ten punk bands and the songs they were singing...

Name the artist and the item their song was being used to advertise (not quite so easy that one)...

Oh no, anagrams of artists names...

What label did a selection of artists have in common?

And one other, the gist of which I can no longer recall..

Yep - we smashed them all and stood proud like Pop Quiz colossi over our rivals as we went into the final round...

Ahem...

Said last round comprised ten gradually more difficult questions with 20 points at stake and the rule was you decide when to stop and keep your points up till then, or keep going, with the caveat that, if you get one answer wrong you get zero points for the round...

Well, anyone out there know what animal the oboe represents in Prokofiev's "Peter and the Wolf"?

In a "pop" quiz?

Off the top of your head though, no looking it up...

Yeah, thought not...

That, added to the fact that arbitrary points had been awarded for "name of the team" (which ours was quite obviously the best but we got no points) and two dancing competitions, one of which saw your slightly overweight correspondent and his lovely Exec Producer dancing on the stage in complete synchronisation to Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" - from which we also garnered zero points - did for us in the end...

We lost to a team of accountants ferchrissakes...

By three points...

However, we consoled ourselves with the facts that..

(a) there was no prize for the winners and...

(b) they had to shell out to buy the trophy for next year...

So, who were the real winners?

Yes indeed - Spikes Spunky Sporrans...

Home in time for a better than usual "Question Time" - intelligent panelists for a change but still far too much airtime given over to the idiots in the audience...

And "This Week" ended the day - with an appearance by comedy fave Stewart Lee...

Lights out - victorious - kind of...

Highlight of the Day : The scores at the end of round 1 to 6...
