Reading, art, drink and food...

Playlist
Van Veen - Piano Music
Vivaldi - Concertos For The Emperor
Santana - Caravanserai

Today started with some reading while Anne slept on...

Then, out...

...for breakfast items...

This morning, with rain forecast, our target was the nearby Gemeentemuseum - but, first, shopping for some very small coffee cups at this cheeky wee shop along our street...

With the cups in the bag and the sky slightly overcast, we approached the museum complex...

...which was featuring not one but two Anton Corbijn exhibitions...

It was pretty busy for a Wednesday morning...

And in we went...

Ooh I say madam...

This room was labelled "Nude"...

These, by Berlinde De Bruyckere, looked like freshly skinned bones...

Down into the basement...

...to an excellent room of exhibits...

...including this huge collection of miniature galleries in the centre of the space...

Mr Warhol was represented..

The miniature artworks are sourced from the collection of Ria & Lex Daniëls...

..and there was a pic of my fave Gerhard Richter, with his family...

Booo!

Back upstairs for some Bridget Riley pop art...

..and a major exhibition of Piet Mondrian and de Stijl (this gallery has the largest Mondrian collection in the world)...

These are examples of his work before he embraced the abstract...

Anne's mum would be pleased to see he could "actually paint"...

Time for a break in the covered atrium...

...with its groovy settees and tables - and some tasty apple cake...

The weather seemed fine outside...

...but there were rumblings...

...and, for the second day running, the middle of the day was marked by a thunder storm - we were glad to be inside...

Now, upstairs for Corbijn...

See how many people you can recognise...

Your correspondent in the body of Mr Eno...

The eyes of Peter Hammill...

Kraftwerk - or is it?

Another pic of Herr Richter...

Who's that in the corner adjacent to Damien Hirst?

Nope, he's gone...

In this room...

...pics of Corbijn posing as various dead stars...

An enjoyable exhibition...

Onwards, past the ever full atrium, seen here from above...

To other less well attended rooms...

this, the work of Remy Jungerman...

Onwards around a fascinating set of spaces in "Discover the Modern"...

A room full of Bacon...

Old and not so old masters too...

Jan Hendrik Weissenbruch was a favourite...

Some new displays were being created...

Out after a good three hours of art...

Peephens on the lake were a bonus...

You can just see the babies...

In the second space, personally chosen works from Corbijn...

Yello...

DAF and Aimee Mann...

Mr Rotten...

PSB...

Bowie...

Ferry...

Black Moses himself, Mr Isaac Hayes...

Of course, much Depeche Mode...

And Corbijn's first assignment, from 1972, Dutch stalwarts, Golden Earring and Focus...

I liked this of U2 and their dads...

Gabriel...

We finished with some Charles Avery, who hails from Oban...

...and seems to like a thing on a head...

He also did this...

Not sure who made the horse though...

Out and a walk back to the apartment...

After a short rest, back into the Hague...

...to where we were caught in the storm yesterday, Denneweg, with its shops and bars...

Back into the old town centre...

...and more bars...

...and another...

...and a walk, looking for a dinner venue...

...eventually deciding on some tasty Indonesian from Dayang...

Erm, you should understand that my plate is very close to the camera!

Post meal constitutional...

...followed by a tram home...

We're not ashamed to say we coveted our neighbour's house...

But our own was pretty good too...

Highlight of the Day : Great art...
