As ever (for me anyway), up early...

Out for breakfast provisions...

Weather looking good...

To Albert Heijn...

...and back...

...by which time, Anne was up and breakfast prep commenced...

What a lovely apartment this was..

Out and to the tram...

...and into The Hague itself - the tram taking us on the 15 minute journey from the seaside suburb of Scheveningen...

In the centre, new architecture mixed with old was the order of the day...

Just off the main street with its more recent blocks, was the Plein, with the imposing Department of Justice building...

Further walking ensued as we acquainted ourselves with the environs...

On the left, the Houses of Parliament (Binnenhof)...

...now on the right...

Into the Binnenhof...

The Maurits Palace just outside, now an Art Gallery...

A few minutes walk to the Lange Vorhaut and the Escher Museum - closed today, as were many of the attractions, due to it being Liberation Day in Holland...

We found a canal based area nearby....

...our walking round of which led us again outside the old town...

Then, back in...

...and a suitable spot for coffee was located...

I can't remember what I said to Anne but it seems it was found to be entertaining...

As we sat, spots of rain commenced to land upon us and soon we were in the midst of a downpour accompanied by thunder and lightning...

t

The worst of the storm passed reasonably quickly but the wind and rain persisted...

So we headed to the Passage shopping mall...

...where an Old Master was spotted...

As things brightened up...

...we enjoyed lunch...

...yummy toasties at the Eat Company...

...and back out - it was as if the storm had never happened...

To the park behind the King's residence...

...and a walk around the outside of the palace gardens...

...past more closed art galleries...

...for an enjoyable sit down and drink at Le Duc...

...where the barmaid entertained us with her choice of vinyl - featuring Dave Brubeck and Donovan...

Onward - this area, Noordeinde, was one filled with many small galleries...

...overlooked by the front of the King's Palace...

The tram we'd taken into town had stopped right alongside a shop called Spui Records - of course, I had had to go in - a couple of purchases made with my birthday money - this 7CD set of Einadui's extremely tuneful piano works was one...

...and this album of live fusion jazz another...

Elsewhere, this disc by Carsten Dahl of Bach's Goldberg Variations for Prepared Piano - apparently deliberately designed to annoy(!!) was also picked up...

We enjoyed Einaudi back at the apartment...

...and I was also reading this pre holiday new arrival...

...whilst enjoying coffee and stroopwaffeln...

A quiet evening in...

A good start to proceedings...

Highlight of the Day : Getting to know The Hague...
