Jeez-oh, fifty bloomin' six...

That's quite old - but it's also a good excuse for a wee trip...

To the Airport at an unusually civilised hour...

Checked in, breakfasted and boarded in no time...

...and off...

...over the North Sea...

...to Amsterdam Schipol...

...and then, on, by train, to our destination, The Hague...

...which was pleasantly sunny upon our arrival...

A tram journey for the Exec Producer...

...and the birthday boy...

...with our newly purchased Dutch equivalents of the Ridacard - the OV Chipkaart...

...down to the seaside suburb of Scheveningen and a lovely apartment...

Our hosts were the artist Petra Knötschke and her husband Michiel Zegveld...

Out into the sun...

...and our first purchase comprises a couple of small celebratory cakes from Vlaamsch Broodhuys which, strangely, only took cards as payment - they advised no cash, for hygiene reasons...

A walk down to the harbour...

...for lunch of Kibbeling and Frites...

...followed by a birthday beer...

...before taking a stroll along the promenade...

...followed by a short tram ride...

...and a further stroll back to the apartment, via Albert Heijn for some provisions, over and above the kindly left by our hosts items...

...soundtracked by the playlists which would appear here over the course of our holiday...

...the fizz was popped and enjoyed on the balcony...

...before a downbeat but highly enjoyable birthday tea...

As night drew in...

...we took a walk around the lovely neighbourhood...

...looking forward to a relaxing week or so...

Highlight of the Day : On holiday...

Did you find that apartment on the Cat Lovers website?. Look forward to seeing the rest of the week.

There were plenty of art cats around but, sadly, no actual cats...
