Today, post breakfast, we drove to the other side of Falkirk to witness the engineering wonder that is “The Falkirk Wheel”...

It takes boats from the Union Canal to the Forth and Clyde Canal in around an hour – the prior system of a dozen circling locks, took ships up to 12 hours to navigate...

We took an hour long boat trip which comprised being lifted up in one of the two gondolas on the huge machine...

...then sailing through the Roughcastle Tunnel, turning around, coming back and descending again in the machine...

During my picture taking exploits the wind had its first victory over me today as my hat sailed off into the sky, landing in the water – and was to be seen at the side of the boat as we descended later...

To the catering department for some pommes frites in the open air – once again the wind triumphed – Anne’s quote “one minute you were eating your chips, the next, I heard a shout and your tray was lying upside down and you were covered in chips and brown sauce”...

Curse you wind!

Headed home, stopping off on the way for two lovely cakes which, with coffee, accompanied our viewing of the excellent DVD “The Counterfeiters” – the story of the Jews saved from the Holocaust by the Nazis in order that they might forge millions of British Pounds and American Dollars...

Very moving indeed...

In the evening, post a not very much on fire “University Challenge”, I commenced rehearsals for possible upcoming “Splinterheart” related gigs...

Highlight of the Day : The Counterfeiters...
